The process
How it works
From your first message to fitting day: a design visit, a written quote, furniture made in our workshop and fitted in your home.
1. Get in touch
Tell us about the room and what you’d like made: use our contact form. Let us know your borough or postcode, the kind of home (a house, a flat, a mansion block), and anything you already have in mind. Photos of the room and the wall where the furniture will go are useful, and you can add them to the form.
2. The design visit
We visit your home, measure the room and talk through the design. We’ll ask what you want to store, how the room is used and what you like the look of. We also check the things that shape the design: how flat and square the walls are, whether the floor and ceiling are level, the skirting, picture rails and cornices, what the walls are made of, and where sockets, radiators, meters or pipes are.
We look at access too: the stairs, landings, lifts and doors the furniture has to get through, and parking for the van. See what happens at a design visit.
3. Your written quote
After the visit we send a written quote. It sets out what we’ll make, the layout and sizes, the materials and finish, the paint colour, what goes inside, the fitting, and anything that isn’t included, such as electrics, plumbing or decorating. Payment terms and timing are set out in the quote too. See what a fitted furniture quote should include.
4. Made in our workshop
Once you’re happy with the quote, your furniture is made in our workshop in moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood. Spray-painted pieces are painted in the workshop. Everything is made in sections sized for the route into your room.
5. Fitting day
We bring the furniture to your home, put it together in the room, scribe it to the walls, set it level, fix it securely to suit the wall and fit the doors and drawers. Hand-painted finishes are applied on site. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the job, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
What affects the quote
We don’t publish prices, because every job is made for a particular room. These are the things that shape a quote:
- The size of the piece and how much of the room it fills
- How many doors and drawers there are, and the inside layout
- The materials and whether the finish is spray painted or hand painted
- The room: uneven walls, sloping ceilings, cornices, skirting and picture rails
- Access: stairs, lifts, parking and how far the sections have to be carried
- Any work needed around other trades’ work
Getting ready for fitting day
- Clear the room, or the part of it where we’re working, and the route from the front door.
- Take down pictures, curtains or shelves on the wall where the furniture goes.
- Make sure any electrics, plumbing or plastering by other trades is finished, unless we’ve agreed otherwise.
- If you live in a block, book the lift and let the concierge or managing agent know.
- Sort out parking with us beforehand.

Parking and controlled parking zones
Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs. A van needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Red routes are run by TfL and have strict stopping rules. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit. See parking for tradespeople in London.
Flats, lifts and narrow stairs
In a flat, the furniture has to get up the stairs, round the landings, into the lift and through the doors before it reaches the room. We measure the route as well as the room and make the furniture in sections to suit. If your building has lift booking rules, an entry system or a concierge, tell us at the design visit. If you’re a leaseholder, check whether your lease needs your landlord’s consent before furniture is fixed to the walls.
Questions
What happens at the design visit?
We visit your home, measure the room and talk through the design: what you want to store, how the room is used, doors, layout and finish. We also look at the walls, floors and ceiling, and at access for fitting. See what happens at a design visit.
When do I get a quote?
After the design visit. We send a written quote that sets out the design, the materials and finish, what’s included and what isn’t.
Why don’t you show prices on the website?
Every piece is made for a particular room, so the size, the inside layout, the finish and the room itself all change the work involved. We quote after the design visit instead. See what affects the quote.
What happens on fitting day?
We bring the furniture in sections, put it together in the room, scribe it to the walls, fix it securely and fit the doors and drawers. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the job, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. See getting your room ready for fitting day.
Do you do electrics, plumbing or decorating?
No. We’re carpenters. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, plumbing for your plumber, gas for a Gas Safe registered engineer, and decorating for your decorator. We plan the furniture around their work.
Can you fit furniture in a flat with narrow stairs or a small lift?
Yes. The furniture is made in sections sized to get up the stairs, round the landings, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the route as well as the room. See fitted furniture in mansion block flats.
What about parking for your van?
Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, and a van needs a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit. See parking for tradespeople in London.
