About our fitted cupboards in Yiewsley

Boxing in a boiler is a job that needs care. The boiler maker’s instructions set out the clearances and ventilation it needs, and the cupboard is built to respect them. Doors open wide enough for servicing, while any work on the boiler is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. If you’re living with tidying away the gas and electricity meters and a hallway cupboard for coats and shoes, that is what fitted cupboards are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

In an older home, panelled doors and painted mouldings may suit; in a newer one, plain flat doors may fit better. Whatever your home in Yiewsley is like, the door style is part of the design conversation. You choose the colour, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, all taken from the design visit.

Common questions about fitted cupboards

Is Yiewsley in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes, Yiewsley is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

I live near West Drayton station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with a few details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you fit cupboards to walls that are not straight?

Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so we scribe and level every cupboard.

How much does a fitted cupboard cost?

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. Size, fittings and finish all affect the price. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.

How long does fitting take?

How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.

Making use of awkward spaces in Yiewsley

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 27% of the housing in the area around Yiewsley, with about 25% built between 1973 and 1999, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Yiewsley include The De Burgh Arms Public House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south-west, and The Railway Arms Public House (Grade II), about 0.6 miles south-west. For a listed home, changes inside that alter its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Hillingdon included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Yiewsley. We plan parking and access with you during the design visit.

For a flat near West Drayton station, fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. Close to Lake Farm Country Park? Fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Is it time for fitted cupboards?

Sometimes the aim is to make storage look like part of the room. We can design doors that suit the style of the house, which keeps the look calm.

We are often asked to help with:

  • A neat cupboard around the boiler
  • Storage for coats and shoes in the hallway
  • A utility room with proper storage
  • Landing shelves for bedding and towels

For a family home near Rabbsfarm Primary School, fitted cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • How parking will work on your street

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

Looking after your furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. These habits help most:

  • Make sure walls are dry before we fit
  • Point out anything that needs access
  • Do not store things against the boiler
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

New paintwork takes a while to harden fully after fitting. Treat the doors gently at first and avoid heavy cleaning. In time, a damp cloth and a little mild soap keeps them clean.

Mention any boiler, meter or fuse board in the space early. They shape the design, and it’s easiest to plan for them at the start.

What affects the price in Yiewsley

The price reflects the time and materials the job needs. That depends on:

  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • How square the room is
  • How big the furniture is
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Helping us understand the room

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you contact us, it’s useful to send:

  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough

To get a quote, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room and roughly what you’d like. We then arrange a design visit to measure and talk through the design, and send you a quote in writing afterwards.

How fitting works for fitted cupboards

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Before fitting day, we check the route in as well as the room, so fitted cupboards arrive in sections that fit through. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. You let us know where the cupboards should go and what they need to hold.
  2. We visit to measure and check how level the floor and walls are.
  3. We send a quote in writing with the design, materials and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. The cupboards are made and finished in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. Fitting day: the cupboards are fitted and trimmed to the room. A hand-painted finish is applied on site, if you chose one.

Preparing the room

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings

Ask for a quote

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
