Bespoke kitchens in Hatch End

A bespoke kitchen is built around the room you have. Each cabinet is made to the real measurements of your walls, floor and ceiling, so the runs fit neatly from wall to wall. You decide the layout, the storage and the colour with us before anything is made in our workshop. If you’re living with a central island in a larger kitchen and spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand can solve it.

Around Hatch End, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, walls tend to be truer than in older houses, though nothing is assumed. Cabinets are scribed where needed and levelled on site. Gas work is for a Gas Safe engineer, and the plumbing and electrics are for your plumber and electrician.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

What prompts bespoke kitchens in Hatch End

In many older homes, ready-made units struggle with lean and slope. Gaps and wavy lines are hard to hide, while scribed and levelled cabinets keep the lines true.

Here are some of the needs we’re asked about most:

  • A central island in a larger kitchen
  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose
  • Tall larder storage
  • A kitchen planned around your appliances

If you live in a flat close to Hatch End station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

What to check before you book

  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from

How to choose a carpenter in London

Made-to-measure kitchens in Hatch End

About 38% of the homes in the streets around Hatch End went up between 1945 and 1972, and about 28% between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Hatch End is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Harrow sets its own rules. If your street in Hatch End is in a controlled parking zone, a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.

For an older house near Pinner Baptist Church, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true. Near listed buildings like East End Farm Cottage, under half a mile south of the centre of Hatch End, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent.

When is bespoke worth it?

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.

Moisture-resistant MDF

Moisture-resistant MDF suits kitchens, as it stays stable and takes paint well.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Hatch End?

Yes, Hatch End is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Harrow and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and talk through the design, and then we send a quote.

I live near Hatch End station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours, and it’s agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it’s in the colour you have chosen.

Which worktops and appliances can I have?

The cabinets are designed for the worktop, sink and appliances you’ve picked. Knowing their sizes early helps, and your quote sets out what’s included.

Can I send photos before the visit?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.

What are the kitchen cabinets made of?

Moisture-resistant MDF for painted doors and panels, and birch plywood where strength matters. We spray paint in the workshop or hand paint, in colours agreed with you.

What affects the price in Hatch End

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Getting in touch

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It’s enough to send:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around

It helps to see the room before we come. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, use our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

What happens on fitting day

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as we will have talked about during the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.

  1. You let us know about the kitchen and where it is in your home.
  2. At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. In our workshop we build the kitchen from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in pieces that suit the route in.
  5. We carry everything in and fit the cabinets, while your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics.

Preparing the room

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician beforehand

Ask for a quote

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, message us from the contact page.
