Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, which is worth sorting early. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, after checking the walls at the design visit.

About our bespoke kitchens in Wealdstone

Some kitchens suit a dresser, with cupboards below and open shelves above, and it suits many period homes. We make dressers to fit the wall they stand against and finished to match the rest of the kitchen. We make kitchens from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a kitchen for a room that isn’t square and a kitchen finished in your colours.

Around Wealdstone, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, walls tend to be truer than in older houses, though nothing is assumed. Each cabinet is levelled and scribed on site. Other trades do the gas, plumbing and electrics.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Questions we are often asked

Do you cover homes near Harrow & Wealdstone station?

Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, changes inside that alter its character can need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

What does a bespoke kitchen cost?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Every kitchen is different, so we quote once we have measured. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?

No. We’re carpenters, so we make and fit the cabinets. Plumbing is done by your plumber, gas by an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and electrics by your electrician, and we design around where their work goes.

What happens during the design visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.

How much time does fitting need?

The time the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

Made-to-measure kitchens in Wealdstone

In the neighbourhood around Wealdstone, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 37%) and before 1919 (about 29%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Wealdstone is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Around a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Wealdstone (about 37%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many houses of that era have had the kitchen extended or knocked through, so the cabinets are made for today’s layout.

Headstone Manor, about 0.9 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a narrow back addition or an old chimney breast may shape the kitchen layout. If your children go to Marlborough Primary School or a school nearby, a tall cupboard by the door can take school bags and coats as part of the kitchen.

Wealdstone is about 2 miles south-west of Harrow, part of the London Borough of Harrow. Wherever you are in Wealdstone, it works the same way: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. We list Wealdstone among 20 places we cover in Harrow.

How fitting day works

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room and how you cook.
  2. We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
  3. You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets.
  4. The cabinets are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.

How to prepare

  • Tell us about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: the room, rough sizes and some pictures if you have them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Looking after your furniture

New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:

  • Wipe up spills promptly
  • Deal with damp walls first
  • Make sure an island won’t crowd the room
  • Talk to your other trades in good time

Hand-painted kitchens are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and clean easily with a soft cloth. It’s worth keeping a record of the colours used.

Measure the route into the kitchen along with the room itself. We make the cabinets in sections that fit through the doors and up the stairs, so let us know about any narrow spots.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Wealdstone?

A common reason is a room that ready-made units do not fit. Standard units are made in fixed sizes, and the gaps get filled with panels. A bespoke kitchen is made to the room instead.

People usually get in touch with us about things like these:

  • A pantry cupboard with shelves and drawers
  • Cabinets built around the appliances you choose
  • A painted dresser for the kitchen
  • A painted kitchen in a colour you choose

If you live near Headstone Manor Recreation Ground, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Will the doors close with even gaps?
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How parking will work on your street
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote
