A larder cupboard can hold more than a run of wall units. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, sized to what you keep in them. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. Most enquiries start with extra cupboard space and a painted dresser for the kitchen; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

A newer kitchen may have a wide glazed door or a big window on one wall, which leaves fewer walls for cabinets. With many homes around Greenhill built since 2000, tall units and an island or peninsula can make up the difference. Wall cabinets are fixed into the studs or with fixings made for the board.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

Practical tips

Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:

  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Measure the route into the kitchen
  • Make a note of what you use every day
  • Allow space to walk round an island

New paintwork takes a while to harden after fitting. Go easy on the painted surfaces at first and avoid harsh cleaners. After that, a soft cloth and mild soapy water is enough.

Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Damp behind units can lead to mould, especially on a colder external wall.

When you need someone else

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Wiring for appliances and lights
  • Knocking through or rebuilding walls
  • Gas work, which is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can use our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. Our process from visit to fitting.

Bespoke kitchens in Greenhill: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Greenhill were built since 2000 (about 45%) and before 1919 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Part of Greenhill is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. About 53% of households in the area around Greenhill live in purpose-built flats, the 2021 Census shows. In a block, each section is sized to get up the stairs or into the lift and through the door. Building management rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours are worth checking early.

Close to Northwick Park? A cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Granada Cinema, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features may need listed building consent. For families living near Saint Jerome Church of England Bilingual School, a kitchen with a spot for school letters and lunch boxes makes mornings easier.

How fitting day works

You won’t need to do much on the day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed at the design visit. From there, we protect the floors, bring the furniture in and get on with the fitting. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Stud walls can carry pipes and cables, so we check before drilling, and heavy pieces are fixed into the studs or stand on the floor. Any new sockets or plumbing are for your electrician or plumber, ideally before fitting day.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the room.
  2. At the design visit we measure the kitchen and the route in, including stairs, doorways and any lift.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, sized to come in through your doors.
  5. The cabinets are fitted in your home with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish; plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.

Before fitting day

  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

How to get a quote

If you know what you want, say so; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Advice

Is bespoke worth it?

A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Newer homes often have compact rooms where standard furniture leaves tricky gaps, while fitted furniture is made to the room. It can also be planned around boxed-in pipes and risers.

There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

How we price bespoke kitchens

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The overall size of the piece

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, and that’s part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Helping us understand the room

You don’t need exact measurements or a plan. It’s enough to send:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
  • Rough measurements: width, height and depth
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit

Every quote follows a design visit. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, then send a written quote. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

FAQs: bespoke kitchens in Greenhill

How do you fit bespoke kitchens in a flat in Greenhill?

At the design visit, we measure the way in as well as the room. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it’s worth checking those early.

Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Greenhill?

Yes. Greenhill is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Harrow and London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with a few details.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

It needs a little planning: leaving ventilation behind and inside helps stop condensation. Damp treatment isn’t something we do, so any damp needs sorting first.

Can I send photos ahead of the visit?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.

Do you do the plumbing and electrics?

No, those are jobs for other trades. Plumbing, gas and electrics are for your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician, while we make and fit the cabinets.

Can you build an island in my kitchen?

If there is enough room, yes. There has to be comfortable space on every side, and we check this at the measuring visit. If the room is narrow, we’ll suggest other layouts.
