Bespoke kitchens for homes in Harrow Weald
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 49% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Harrow Weald, with about 19% built before 1919, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. Near the centre of Harrow Weald, Historic England’s list includes Harrow Weald House Farm (Grade II*), under half a mile north-east, and Church of St Joseph (catholic) (Grade II), less than half a mile south. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Harrow Weald (about 49%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Interwar houses often started with a small kitchen that has since been extended or opened up, so the cabinets are made for today’s layout.
If your children go to Salvatorian Roman Catholic College or a school nearby, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. The wider area includes historic houses such as Headstone Manor, about 0.9 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

About our bespoke kitchens in Harrow Weald
We make kitchens for homes in Harrow Weald and across London. It starts with a design visit to measure and go through the layout, then a quote in writing. Once agreed, the kitchen is made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. We make kitchens from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a painted dresser for the kitchen and a kitchen for a room that isn’t square.
Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Harrow Weald, the design can make the most of it. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens
Does a conservation area in or near Harrow Weald affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Harrow Weald?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do you fit furniture for landlords?
Yes. We make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let as well as for homeowners. We will need access agreed with any tenants for the visit and for fitting day.
Do you cover Harrow Weald?
Yes. Harrow Weald is part of the area we cover. To arrange a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Can you fit furniture on an external wall?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
Can you fit cabinets to walls that aren’t straight?
Yes. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled, to give a level line for the worktop. It’s one of the main reasons people choose bespoke in an older house.
What else we make in Harrow Weald
From workshop to your room
Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. After that, it is fixed to the wall using fixings that suit the wall, whether that’s solid brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. On fitting day, the sections are carried in, assembled, scribed to the wall and levelled. Hand-painted furniture can be finished on site; spray-painted pieces arrive finished from the workshop. Saturdays can be arranged.
- First, you tell us about the kitchen you have and the one you want.
- We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design, including where the sink and appliances will go.
- A written quote follows, covering the cabinets, materials and finish, for you to read through.
- The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and an engineer on the Gas Safe Register do the plumbing, electrics and gas.
How to prepare
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
How to get a quote
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.

Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s normally a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
Why people ask for bespoke kitchens in Harrow Weald
Kitchens in older homes can be short on cupboard space. Larders, tall cupboards and deep drawers can hold much more without crowding the room.
Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:
- Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
- A larder for food and small appliances
- Cabinets that suit lean and sloping walls
- Room for everything in the kitchen
Living in a block of flats near Headstone Lane station? Then check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.
Before you choose who makes it
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
- Will the doors close with even gaps?
- Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
What bespoke kitchens cannot fix
It is useful to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Gas work, which is for a Gas Safe registered engineer
- Plastering, tiling or decorating
- New sockets or circuits
If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. In return, the storage, layout and finish are designed for you. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
Why us?
- Saturdays by arrangement
- 300+ projects completed
- Every quote follows a design visit
- Fitted tight to walls that aren’t straight
