Ickenham Fitted Cupboards

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. Our work on fitted cupboards in Ickenham starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.

  • Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
  • Space for laundry, cleaning things and boots
  • Cupboards that sit well with skirting and coving

Fitted cupboards for your home in Ickenham

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf cupboards are quicker to get and typically cost less, and they suit some rooms well. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely sit flush. A fitted cupboard costs more but follows the room. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, so they can stick out too far or waste space behind. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.

We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

How we make fitted cupboards for Ickenham

We fit fitted cupboards in Ickenham and across London. We begin with a design visit to measure and go through the design, followed by a quote in writing. Once agreed, we make the cupboards in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote, so you will know before we start. If your home has storage in a corner nothing else fits and boxing in a boiler with room for servicing, that is what fitted cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Ickenham is interwar, semi-detached or detached, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Each piece is levelled on site, so doors, lids and drawers line up.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Questions from Ickenham

Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Ruislip station?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make fitted cupboards for a home in Ickenham?

Yes, Ickenham is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Hillingdon and the rest of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote.

Who chooses the colour?

The choice is yours. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Can you build a cupboard over the fuse board and meters?

Yes, while keeping access clear. Meter readers and engineers need to get to them, so we design doors or removable panels for that.

What do fitted cupboards cost?

Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. The size, the inside layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, get in touch through our contact form.

How fitting works for fitted cupboards

The last stage of the day is the finish. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that’s what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. Elsewhere in the house, the route is normally more generous. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. We start with the space and what you want to store, including anything tricky like a boiler or meter.
  2. We visit to measure and check how level the floor and walls are. Doors, shelves and rails are agreed then too.
  3. A quote follows, setting out the design and finish, ready for you to check.
  4. We build the cupboards in our workshop.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and set level.

Advice

Looking after your furniture

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Mention any parking or lift rules
  • Leave room in front of the meters
  • Give the paint time to cure fully
  • Make a note of what needs a home

Hand-painted finishes are easy to touch up. Spray-painted finishes are smooth and even, and small marks can often be cleaned off with a soft cloth. Keep a note of the paint colour for later.

Any damp should be dealt with before furniture goes against a wall. Damp behind a cupboard can lead to mould, and external walls can be colder than internal ones. We can allow for ventilation where it is needed.

What affects the price in Ickenham

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • How many doors and drawers there are
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • The overall size of the piece
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Getting in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:

  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • Whether it is a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift

Rough measurements are fine at the start. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, send us a few details through our contact form. You receive a written quote after the visit.

Fitted cupboards in Ickenham: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Ickenham were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 39%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 35%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted cupboards are fixed and fitted. Part of Ickenham is in the Ickenham Village Conservation Area, according to Historic England’s records. Conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so Hillingdon is inside it. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Ickenham. How the van gets to your door is planned at the design visit.

For a flat near West Ruislip station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your children go to The Douay Martyrs Catholic School or a school nearby, fitted cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. For an older house near St Giles' Church, a landing recess can take a linen cupboard built to its exact size.
