Our fitted wardrobes across UB10
Rooms under a slope are common in loft conversions and top-floor rooms. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there is height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an awkward corner into storage. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the usual reasons to get in touch are not enough hanging space and dusty space on top of the wardrobe.
Fitting day follows a set order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch with some details about the bedroom and where it is in the house.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too. Let us know about parking as well, as a van normally needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
- A written quote follows with the design, materials and finish.
- In our workshop the wardrobes are built in sections from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, so each piece fits through the doors and round the landings.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Quotes in UB10
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across UB10
Homes across UB10, Hayes, Cowley and Ickenham among them, often have one bedroom that has to do two jobs. The design can help one room work two ways.
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 46% of the housing in UB10, with about 20% built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. More than a third of the homes in UB10 (about 46%) date from between 1919 and 1939, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. About 50% of households in the UB10 postcode district live in detached or semi-detached houses, according to Census 2021. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in UB10, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. Wherever you live, it starts with a visit and a quote.
Hillingdon: For families living near Abbotsfield School for Boys, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. If you live near Norman Leddy Memorial Gardens, fitted wardrobes are normally planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.
Tips worth knowing
People planning fitted wardrobes often ask about these. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- List the things that will not hang, such as jumpers and shoes
- Move furniture away from the wardrobe wall beforehand
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
A soft, slightly damp cloth is enough to clean painted doors. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners.
Every so often, check that nothing has worked loose and adjust any door that starts to catch.
Where other trades come in
We do not treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Building work to create a loft room
Flats, blocks and rented homes
For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
If you live in a flat, getting the furniture in is planned from the start. At the design visit, we measure the stairs, the landings, any lift and the doors, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
To be fair, modular wardrobe systems are easy to reconfigure. A bespoke interior is planned around what you own.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- Have they thought about parking near you?
- Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Questions we are often asked
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing. We talk through both at the design visit.
Who chooses the colour?
The choice is yours, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch.
What happens when you come to measure?
It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do pictures help?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you send us a few details through our contact form.
