Loft storage for your home in Ickenham

Loft storage in Ickenham: what you get

Behind an eaves door, there is often insulation and a need for ventilation. We design the storage so it does not block airflow or crush insulation. If anything looks wrong behind the eaves, it’s worth asking whoever converted the loft. We look at this during the design visit in Ickenham. If your home has a sloping ceiling with no room for a wardrobe and a loft room that doubles as an office or guest room, that’s what eaves cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Around Ickenham, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a big part of the housing, so we still scribe every piece to the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something is not quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

A confident DIYer can manage simple shelves or a standard wardrobe in a square room. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s usually a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

How fitting works for loft storage

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. The sections built in our workshop come in next, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the eaves and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You tell us about the loft room.
  2. At the design visit we measure up and agree the layout and colour.
  3. A quote in writing follows.
  4. The storage is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, and sprayed there if you chose a spray finish.
  5. The storage is fitted and scribed to the slopes, and any hand painting is done on site.
  6. Fresh paint needs time to cure, so use the doors and drawers gently at first.

Preparing the room

  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through

Starting with a design visit

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

For simple storage in a boarded loft, ready-made shelving can do the job. A fitted design earns its place in a loft room you live in. At the design visit, we’ll tell you honestly which approach suits your loft. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, which shows up against standard furniture. Built-in pieces are scribed to take up the difference.

Access to the room makes a difference too. Several flights of stairs, a small lift or a narrow hall can mean smaller sections and more carrying, which the quote allows for. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit.

Is it time for loft storage?

Some people want to hide clutter in the eaves. Eaves cupboards keep them out of sight. The room stays calm and clear.

Common reasons to get in touch include:

  • Needing storage in a loft office
  • Unused space in a dormer
  • Seasonal things cluttering the loft room
  • Furniture that cannot get up to the loft

Close to Church Field Gardens? Eaves cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • Which materials they’ll use, named in the quote
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • Where they’ll park and unload

Flats, leases and landlords

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check during the design visit.

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there is a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Tell us about it when you get in touch.

FAQs: loft storage in Ickenham

Is parking a problem for fitting in Ickenham?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Ruislip station?

Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

What finishes do you offer?

There are two choices: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Can you convert my loft as well?

No, the conversion itself is not our work. We design and fit storage once the room is in place, from eaves cupboards to wardrobes under the slopes.

Which materials go into your loft storage?

The storage is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The carcasses and drawer boxes are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the doors and panels are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.

Should I send photos?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough measurements. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form.
