TV and media units in Bexley Riverside: what you get

A built-in TV unit gives the screen, the boxes, the speakers and the cables one planned home. The wall is planned as a whole, rather than a stand with wires trailing behind it. If you are planning a TV unit in Bexley Riverside, we start with a design visit to measure and talk through what you use. We make TV and media units from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a big screen that dominates the wall and empty alcoves beside the TV.

A typical 1930s semi has a bay window at the front and a chimney breast with a recess either side. Interwar, semi-detached and detached houses make up a big part of the housing around Bexley Riverside, so it is a layout worth planning for. TV and media units usually go on the chimney breast wall, leaving the bay clear.

Our quotes are written in plain words, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish.

Do you need TV and media units in Bexley Riverside?

Upgrading to a bigger screen is a common trigger. The old stand no longer suits it, or the screen takes over the room. A unit around it puts it in proportion.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Wasted space around the screen
  • Somewhere to keep games tidy
  • Standard units leaving gaps
  • Leads that show from every angle

TV and media units in Bexley Riverside: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Bexley Riverside were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. About 40% of homes in the streets around Bexley Riverside date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Interwar front rooms normally have a bay at the front and a chimney breast on the side wall, and TV and media units are planned around both. Controlled parking zones are common across London, and Bexley sets its own rules. If your road in Bexley Riverside falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Hall Place and Gardens, about 1.6 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. If your children go to Normandy Primary School or a school nearby, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design.

Questions from Bexley Riverside

Do you cover homes near Barnehurst station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can tell us about the room on our contact form to arrange a design visit, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make TV and media units for homes in Bexley Riverside?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London, and Bexley Riverside is part of that. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and discuss the design, and then we send a quote.

Does the unit work if the TV is on a bracket?

The unit can be planned either way. If the TV is wall-mounted, panels and shelves are arranged around the bracket and cables, and if it stands on the unit we size the top for it.

Do you move sockets for a TV unit?

We don’t do electrical work. Your electrician handles sockets and wiring, and Part P of the Building Regulations covers some electrical work in homes. We tell you where the unit will sit so the sockets end up in the right place.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

Honest limits

Our work is the furniture itself: designing it, making it in our workshop and fitting it. In practice, that means:

  • Moving sockets or adding new wiring, which is for your electrician
  • Painting the walls and ceiling
  • Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. How a job runs, step by step.

What happens on fitting day

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. Most of the decisions were made during the design visit and set out in your quote, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the unit and the cable routes planned into it, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment.
  2. We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish, for you to look over.
  4. We build the unit in our workshop, with routes and ventilation planned in.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and ready for your equipment.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Arranging a design visit

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, once the room is measured and the design talked through. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

TVs keep getting bigger, and a stand chosen for today’s set may not suit the next. We can plan the opening with a bigger screen in mind if you expect to upgrade. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, so fitted furniture is made to the wall’s own length. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. It helps to talk about parking at the measuring visit.
