Walk-in wardrobes for homes in Bexley Riverside

A walk-in wardrobe gives your clothes a room of their own. We build them in spare rooms, box rooms and corners of bedrooms, with hanging rails, shelving and drawers planned around what you own. We make it all in our workshop and fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. People typically come to us about shelves for shoes and bags and a use for a small spare room; the furniture is made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and that slope can be used for storage built to the angle. Around Bexley Riverside, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. We work in lofts that are already converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.

We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. You will see what will be made, the boards used and the finish, all taken from the design visit.

Bedrooms in Bexley Riverside: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Bexley Riverside were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for walk-in wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. About 26% of homes in the area around Bexley Riverside were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war bedrooms are usually simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall. On TfL’s red routes, the rules on stopping and loading are strict. Where a home in Bexley Riverside is on or beside a main road, it is useful to mention that at the design visit. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

Close to Braeburn Park? Keeping walk-in wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. Hall Place and Gardens, about 1.6 miles south, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go.

What happens on fitting day

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. Next, we carry in the sections made at our workshop, one at a time. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. If you have a driveway, it can make unloading simpler, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the walk-in wardrobe in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
  6. Before we leave we go through the doors and drawers with you; new paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.

  • Keep pets in another room while we work

Arranging a design visit

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them over, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Ready-made wardrobe systems are easy to buy and often cheaper, and in a simple room they may suit. Where walls lean and floors slope, they rarely fit neatly. A bespoke walk-in wardrobe is made to the room. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Practical tips

The finish lasts best with a little care. Here are our suggestions:

  • Let air move through the space
  • Count your coats and long garments
  • Plan shoe storage around what you own
  • Give the paint time to cure fully

Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first, and wipe them with a soft, damp cloth.

If the room is on an external wall, have any damp sorted first. External walls can be colder and damper, so we allow for ventilation.

Do you need walk-in wardrobes in Bexley Riverside?

Sharing one wardrobe between two rarely works for long. We can design separate areas for hanging, shelves and drawers, so both have room.

If any of these sound familiar, it is worth getting in touch:

  • Shelves for shoes and bags
  • Moving wardrobes out of the bedroom
  • A built-in dressing table
  • More space for clothes and shoes

For families living near Normandy Primary School, the inside of walk-in wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Questions we’re often asked

Is parking a problem for fitting in Bexley Riverside?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Barnehurst station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Do I need permission to fit furniture in a leasehold flat?

Possibly. Leases vary, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we can’t advise on, so it’s worth checking before fitting day.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

How do you get large furniture into a flat?

The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route along with the room itself. At the design visit, we measure the route not just the room.

How much time does fitting need?

Every room is different. The time the fitting takes depends on the room and how much is fitted into it, and your quote sets out the fitting days.
