TV and media units for your home in Brimsdown
About our TV and media units in Brimsdown
Hiding the cables is often the main aim. We plan cable routes through the unit from the start, with holes, channels and access panels so leads can be added or changed later. We make the routes, and your electrician handles any wiring. We make TV and media units from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about wasted space around the screen and equipment running hot in a closed cupboard.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Brimsdown, the living room may be a good size but with fewer recesses than a Victorian house. That leaves room for TV and media units in the alcoves, along a full wall or around the chimney breast. The carcasses are made from moisture-resistant MDF or birch plywood, painted in a colour agreed with you.
Once you’ve read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is built in our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically simple, though we still measure the route in along with the room itself. TV and media units arrive in sections and are assembled in place.
- You send us a few details about the TV, the boxes and the speakers you use, including the size of the screen.
- At the design visit, we measure up and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you. New sockets or wiring are for your electrician, so it helps to have them in mind early.
- We send a quote in writing for the unit, ready for you to check.
- We make the cupboards, shelves and panels in our workshop.
- We fit it in your home, with the cable routes ready to use.
Getting ready for fitting day

Advice
Brimsdown homes and TV and media units
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 37% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Brimsdown, with about 25% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List records 5 entries within half a mile of the centre of Brimsdown. You can check whether a particular building is listed on Historic England’s list. Around a third of the homes in the area around Brimsdown (about 37%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from the 1920s and 1930s often have a bay window and a chimney breast in the front room, which shape where TV and media units go.
For a family home near Brimsdown Primary School, shelving with deep cupboards below keeps books, games and school things in one place. If you live in a flat close to Brimsdown station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.
Brimsdown is within the London Borough of Enfield, about 3 miles south-west of Edmonton. We work across all London boroughs and the City of London, and Brimsdown is part of that. Brimsdown is one of the places in Enfield where we make TV and media units, and the borough has 26 places on our list.
Design visits and fitting in EN3 work the same way as everywhere else we cover. The problems TV and media units solve
Boxes, consoles and routers on the floor are a familiar sight. A media unit gives each box its own ventilated space.
TV and media units can help with:
- Standard units leaving gaps
- A cabinet that traps heat
- A tangle of wires behind the TV
- Set-top boxes stacked on a stand
Forty Hall, about 2 miles west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units.
Questions to ask before you hire anyone
- Whether the quote follows a visit to your home
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
- How they’ll get the furniture into the room
Boards, parts and paint
Shelves
Shelves are sized for the equipment and speakers they carry.
Spray-painted finish
The unit arrives already finished. Treat it gently while the paint cures fully.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Not every bought cabinet allows enough air for warm equipment. We plan ventilation for boxes, consoles and amplifiers. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Why work with us in Brimsdown
- Designed for the room you have
- Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Saturday work by prior arrangement
- A spray or hand-painted finish
Before and after fitting day
None of this takes much effort. What we’d suggest:
- Plan open spaces for anything controlled by a remote
- Note the size of each box and speaker
- Find out how much space each box needs around it
- Think about whether you’ll upgrade the screen
Use the access panels and cable routes when you add or change leads rather than drilling new holes. It keeps the unit tidy.
Heavy equipment is best kept low, and no single shelf overloaded.
Questions from Brimsdown
Does a conservation area in or near Brimsdown affect fitted furniture?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Brimsdown?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two options: spray painting, done in the workshop for a smooth, even finish, or hand painting, which can be done on site. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.
How do I get started?
Simply drop us a line using the contact form. Rough sizes and a few pictures help, and then we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, followed by a quote in writing.
Will you travel outside London?
No. We only take on work in London, across all the boroughs and the City of London.
Can landlords use you for a rented flat?
Yes. Landlords and letting agents can arrange a design visit in the same way as anyone else. Access has to be agreed with the tenants for the visit and for fitting day.
