Before and after fitting day
Getting the most from TV and media units starts with the planning and carries on after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:
- Look at what the equipment makers say about airflow
- Plan any new sockets with your electrician before fitting
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
- Choose how the TV will sit before the design is finished
Clean the paintwork with a soft cloth that is barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners.
Don’t let clutter build up against the unit’s vents.
TV and media units for homes in Edmonton
A built-in TV unit gives the screen, the boxes, the speakers and the cables one planned home. Instead of a stand, a tangle of wires and a few odd shelves, the whole wall is designed at once. If you are planning a TV unit in Edmonton, we start with a design visit to measure and talk through what you use. If your home has a screen at the wrong height and boxes with no ventilation, TV and media units made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted can solve it.
Where housing types are mixed, as they are in much of London, living rooms vary a lot in shape. Some have alcoves either side of a chimney breast, some a bay window, and some neither. TV and media units are designed for the room in Edmonton that you have, with shelves sized so they don’t sag.
The furniture is made in our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so you can check every detail beforehand.

When is bespoke worth it?
Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

TV and media units for homes in Edmonton
In the neighbourhood around Edmonton, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 29%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. That matters for TV and media units, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. The National Heritage List records 13 entries within half a mile of the centre of Edmonton. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. A quarter or more of the homes in the neighbourhood around Edmonton (about 27%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from the 1920s and 1930s often have a bay window and a chimney breast in the front room, which shape where TV and media units go.
Near listed buildings like Lamb's Cottage, under half a mile north-west of the centre of Edmonton, older homes may keep original joinery that TV and media units can be designed around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your home is one of the older houses near All Saints' Church, the alcoves beside a chimney breast are the natural place for TV and media units. Living in a block of flats near Edmonton Green station? Then the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Bought media units are made in set widths, so gaps are common. A bespoke unit is scribed to the walls and can run to the ceiling with shelves and cupboards around the screen. A standard unit is the same in every home, whatever the room is like, whereas fitted pieces are designed for one room: yours. The finish is chosen to suit the space.
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

What happens on fitting day
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the TV wall and what it needs to hold, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. We plan the details of the day at the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.
- You contact us with details of the room, the TV and your equipment, and where the sockets are now.
- At the design visit, we measure the wall and plan the screen space, cable routes and ventilation with you.
- You receive a quote setting out the layout and the paint finish.
- The unit is made in our workshop, with cable routes and vents built in.
- Fitting day: the unit goes in, is levelled and scribed, and the cable routes are left clear. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Preparing the room
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
Arranging a design visit
We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

How we price TV and media units
To work out the quote, we look at:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- How many doors and drawers there are
- The width and height of the space
Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Getting in touch
To give us a picture of the room, it helps to include:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- What the furniture needs to hold
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough measurements and some pictures if you have them. When you are ready, fill in our short enquiry form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
Questions we are often asked
Do you cover homes near Edmonton Green station?
Yes, homes across Enfield and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Edmonton?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can the TV be wall-mounted with a unit around it?
If the TV is wall-mounted, we design the unit around the bracket position and the cable route behind it. The wall needs to be sound for the bracket.
Will my boxes get too hot inside the unit?
Ventilation is designed in wherever equipment sits. Each box should have its own space.
Can you plan for a future TV?
The space can be sized for a larger TV, if you expect to upgrade. Mention the largest screen you might buy when we visit.
What happens when you come to measure?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
