About our bespoke kitchens in Bopeep

We make kitchens for homes in Bopeep and across London. We begin with a design visit, measuring the room and planning the layout, followed by a quote. Once agreed, the kitchen is made in our workshop and fitted in your home. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you can plan around it. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are a kitchen planned around your appliances and a kitchen island with room around it.

A good part of the housing around Bopeep is interwar, semi-detached or detached. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the original kitchen was probably small, and many have since been extended or opened up. The cabinets are designed for the room as it is today, with an island where space allows.

A written quote follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

What it’s made from

Hand-painted finish

A hand-painted finish can be done on site after fitting. It’s easy to touch up later.

Plinths and scribe strips

These details are what make a kitchen look built for an older room.

Questions we are often asked

I live near Knockholt station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

Will a conservation area stop me having bespoke kitchens fitted in Bopeep?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Should I send pictures?

Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit. Show anything the furniture has to work around, like radiators or sockets.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and the cabinets are made to suit them. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

What if the stairs or lift are small?

Getting it in is planned at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you do not need to stay in the room, though we like to go over the furniture with you at the end.

Is bespoke worth it?

A bespoke kitchen takes more planning than picking units from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Size, the number of doors and drawers and the internal fittings make the biggest difference to the price.

Why choose us

  • We visit, measure and talk through the design before we quote
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Saturday work by arrangement
  • Edges scribed to follow your walls

Take a look at how bespoke compares with ready-made or what a quote should include.

The problems bespoke kitchens solve

In a flat, the kitchen may share a wall with the living space or sit in a narrow galley. Bespoke cabinets can make the most of a small or odd-shaped room without wasting space.

People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • A kitchen planned around your appliances
  • A dresser that suits a period house
  • Making the most of a galley kitchen
  • A kitchen finished in your colours

If you live near Hewitt's Chalk Bank, a cupboard by the back door for boots and coats can be built in with the kitchen.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • Can you see real work of theirs?

Caring for painted furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good. Here are our suggestions:

  • Check there is room around an island before planning one
  • Choose your appliances before the design is final
  • Let us know how parking works on your street
  • Have damp sorted before fitting

Let steam escape when you cook, as steam settling on cabinets over time is not good for any finish. Ventilation helps the whole kitchen.

Think about how the cabinets will get in. Workshop-made furniture comes in sections sized for stairs, hallways and lifts, so tell us about tight turns or small lifts.

What happens on fitting day

There isn’t much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it is useful to have the room cleared beforehand, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it is over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. How long the fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. We start with how you use the kitchen and what is not working.
  2. We visit, measure the walls, floor and ceiling, and go through the design.
  3. We send a quote that sets out the design, materials and finish, for you to read through.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made at our workshop.
  5. The kitchen is fitted in your home, and your plumber, electrician and a Gas Safe registered engineer do the plumbing, electrics and gas. We don’t arrange those trades, so it is useful to book them early.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going

Arranging a design visit

We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a written quote. Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Advice

Made-to-measure kitchens in Bopeep

In the area around Bopeep, the largest groups of homes date from between 1945 and 1972 (about 59%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. A conservation area lies within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of Bopeep, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. About 69% of households in the streets around Bopeep live in detached or semi-detached houses, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.
