Chelsfield Bespoke Kitchens
Few London rooms are perfectly square, and we scribe the furniture to follow the walls. Our work on bespoke kitchens in Chelsfield starts with a design visit, and everything is made at our workshop.
- A kitchen finished in your colours
- A kitchen that fits an uneven room
- A larder for food and small appliances

Chelsfield homes and bespoke kitchens
Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 59% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Chelsfield, with about 18% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. We take that into account during the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. The National Heritage List has 22 entries within half a mile of the centre of Chelsfield. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and the furniture can be designed around them rather than over them. About 59% of homes in the neighbourhood around Chelsfield were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war kitchens are often compact, so cabinets made to the room’s exact widths make the most of it.
If you live in a flat close to Chelsfield station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For a family home near Chelsfield Primary School, planning a kitchen around family routines, with a place for school things, pays off. The wider area includes historic houses such as Lullingstone Castle, about 3 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, cabinets will be scribed to walls and floors that are rarely true.
Chelsfield is about 2 miles north-west of Orpington, in the London Borough of Bromley. We can visit homes in Chelsfield on weekdays, or on a Saturday by arrangement. Chelsfield is one of 49 places on our list for Bromley.

About our bespoke kitchens in Chelsfield
Older London homes are rarely simple places to fit a kitchen. Few walls are flat, and floors often fall away from the walls, which shows up quickly along a run of cabinets. Each cabinet is trimmed to the wall and levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet, so the worktop you choose can sit level. If your home has cabinets for a narrow kitchen and tall larder storage, that is what kitchens are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Chelsfield, that’s a feature worth designing around. Any capped chimney stays ventilated.
We write quotes in plain English, without jargon. They say what will be made, what it is made from and how it will be finished, taken from what we agreed at the visit.

Your questions about bespoke kitchens in Chelsfield
Can you make bespoke kitchens for a home in Chelsfield?
Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London, and Chelsfield is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Chelsfield?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.
Can I send pictures before the visit?
Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, particularly with rough measurements. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form.
Do I need the building owner’s consent?
Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. We can’t give advice on your lease, so it is worth checking before fitting day.
What happens when you come to measure?
It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.
Do you handle the gas and electrics for the kitchen?
No. We make and fit the kitchen cabinets. Your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, and we plan the cabinets around their work.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.
Fitting day, step by step
Every fitting follows the same order: floors are protected, the sections come in, everything is levelled, scribed to the walls, fixed and finished. Then the room is tidied and we look over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the kitchen’s size and how many other trades are involved, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room and how you cook.
- We visit to measure the room and go through the layout, the storage and where the appliances will sit.
- You receive a quote in writing for the kitchen cabinets. Plumbing, gas and electrics aren’t part of it: those are for your plumber, an engineer on the Gas Safe Register and your electrician.
- The cabinets are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day the cabinets go in, scribed and set level, ready for your plumber, electrician and Gas Safe registered engineer to do their part.
Preparing the room
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
Starting with a design visit
Photos help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, message us from the contact page, and we will arrange a design visit.
Advice
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Choosing bespoke means a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, rather than ordering from a range. What you get is a kitchen planned around how you cook and live. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.
Why choose us
- Every quote follows a design visit
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- Made for your room, not a standard size
- Spray painted or hand painted, in the colour you choose

Before and after fitting day
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. These habits help most:
- Let us know how parking works on your street
- Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access
- Wipe up spills promptly
- Allow space to walk round an island
Wipe up spills and splashes promptly, particularly near the sink. Even moisture-resistant materials last better when kept dry.
Damp walls should be dealt with before cabinets are fitted. Damp behind units can lead to mould, especially on a colder external wall.
Where other trades come in
It helps to know what’s outside our work before you plan:
- Connecting sinks, taps and dishwashers
- New sockets or circuits
- Gas work, which is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register
Not sure whether your space suits bespoke kitchens? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we will tell you before you arrange a visit. How it works.
