Bespoke kitchens in Biggin Hill

Many people want a tall larder for food, tins and small appliances. A larder can have shelves, deep drawers and racks, sized to what you keep in them. In an alcove or at the end of a run, it can use space that would otherwise be wasted. If your home has making the most of a galley kitchen and spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets, kitchens made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish can solve it.

Where a back room and kitchen have been knocked together, a kitchen-diner may have a chimney breast at the dining end, which can frame a dresser or tall cupboards. If yours is one of the interwar houses or semis that make up much of the housing around Biggin Hill, the design can make the most of it. A blocked chimney still needs ventilating, and damp is sorted first.

Where other trades are needed, for instance an electrician to move a socket, we point that out, so it can be arranged before fitting day. The quote itself covers our work, from the design to the materials and finish.

Flat-pack or bespoke?

It’s worth being honest about cost: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

Common questions about bespoke kitchens

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Biggin Hill?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do you make bespoke kitchens for homes in Biggin Hill?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London, and Biggin Hill is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Do you supply the worktop and appliances?

The worktop, sink and appliances are the ones you choose, and we design the cabinets around them. Your quote sets out what’s included.

What happens when you come to measure?

It’s a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, and the written quote comes afterwards.

Will a bespoke kitchen suit my uneven floor?

Yes, it is something we deal with all the time. Walls in older homes are rarely flat and floors often slope, so we scribe and level every cabinet.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you contact us if a Saturday suits you best.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. A lease can require consent from the building owner for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.

Caring for painted furniture

A little care keeps the finish looking good, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Think about how you cook and what you store
  • Share the layout with your other trades
  • Know your appliance sizes early
  • Check stairs, hallways and lifts for access

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Walls and floors shift slightly through the year, so hinges allow small adjustments later.

Have any damp sorted before the kitchen goes in. Cabinets against a damp wall can trap moisture, particularly on external walls.

How fitting works for bespoke kitchens

When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, a piece at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the size of the kitchen and the design, and your quote sets out the fitting days. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so any section going up there is sized for them. The main stairs in houses of that age are usually straighter. The pieces are joined and fixed once in place.

  1. First, you tell us about the kitchen you have and the one you want. It helps to know the worktop, sink and appliances you have in mind.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room and discuss the layout, storage and finish.
  3. You get a written quote for the cabinets, with the materials and finish set out.
  4. The cabinets, doors and drawer fronts are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the kitchen in your home, while your plumber, a Gas Safe engineer and your electrician handle the plumbing, gas and electrics. We don’t arrange those trades, so it helps to book them early.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know

Getting a quote

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and talk through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Do you need bespoke kitchens in Biggin Hill?

Older kitchens often lack storage. A larder or tall units can change how much you can store without crowding the room.

If you recognise any of these, it’s worth talking to us:

  • Spray-painted or hand-painted cabinets
  • An island where space allows
  • Spaces sized for your oven and fridge
  • A layout for a small or tricky room

If you live in a flat close to Woldingham station, kitchens are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Questions to ask before you hire anyone

  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
  • How they’ll get the furniture into the room
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
