About our fitted cupboards in Hatton

Our fitted cupboards are made for homes in Hatton and all over London. It starts with a design visit, where we measure and talk through what you need, followed by a written quote. Once agreed, we make the cupboards in our workshop and fit them in your home. How long the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote, so you will know before we start. People usually come to us about landing shelves for bedding and towels and a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Walls in houses from between the wars are typically straighter than in older ones, but seldom perfect. Much of the housing around Hatton is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and every piece is still scribed where it meets the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.

If the job needs another trade, like an electrician or a plumber, we’ll tell you, so it can be arranged before fitting day. Our quote covers the carpentry: the design, the materials and the finish.

Flats, leases and landlords

For a rented home, access for the design visit and fitting day has to be agreed with the tenants. An agent can arrange access for you, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.

Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Standalone furniture moves with you; fitted cupboards stay with the house. Fitted storage is built in for good and is designed for this home. It’s worth thinking about how long you plan to stay. Bays, box rooms and stair bulkheads are where off-the-shelf furniture struggles most, and interwar homes often have all three. Built-in pieces are designed to fit them.

There’s no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To start, message us from the contact page.

What we don’t do

As carpenters, we leave some work to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Changes to meters, which are for your supplier or an electrician
  • Work on a boiler, which is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register
  • Connecting appliances to water or waste

If in doubt, you can fill in our short enquiry form and describe the room. Our process from visit to fitting.

What goes into it

  • Ventilated doors
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Adjustable shelves

Why people ask for fitted cupboards in Hatton

Others want their cupboards to match the rest of the house. We can design doors that suit the style of the house, so the cupboard looks as if it belongs.

We’re often asked to help with:

  • Landing shelves for bedding and towels
  • Floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat
  • Space for laundry, cleaning things and boots
  • Storage for coats and shoes in the hallway

If you live near Hounslow Heath, fitted cupboards can be designed to hold outdoor kit, from walking boots to picnic things.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How they handle walls that aren’t straight
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Will the quote be in writing?
  • Whether the finish is set out in the quote

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

How fitting day works

You are welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving the room tidy. The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

  1. You contact us about fitted cupboards.
  2. We visit to measure the space and the route in from the street, including the stairs and doorways. It’s useful to tell us about parking then, as a van normally needs a permit or a paid bay in a controlled parking zone.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The cupboards are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
  5. The sections are carried in, joined and set level. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

Starting with a design visit

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and discuss the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Questions we’re often asked

Is Hatton in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes. We cover all of Hillingdon and the rest of London, and Hatton is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, and then we send a quote.

Is parking a problem for fitting in Hatton?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the design visit.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two options: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Can you fit cupboards to walls that are not straight?

Yes. Each cupboard is trimmed to the shape of the wall and set it level on adjustable feet or a plinth. That is one of the main reasons to choose fitted cupboards in an older house.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

We need someone to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you before anything is painted.

Making use of tricky spaces in Hatton

In the streets around Hatton, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 40%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 31%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. We take that into account at the measuring visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Hatton include Green Man Public House (Grade II), under half a mile south-east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can need listed building consent. It is worth speaking to the council’s conservation officer before the design is final. Around a third of the homes in the area around Hatton (about 31%) were built between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Post-war homes often have fewer nooks than older houses, so fitted cupboards add storage that was never built in, fixed to suit concrete, block or brick.

For families living near Cranford Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up. If your home is one of the older houses near The Parish Church of the Good Shepherd, an old boiler or airing cupboard can be rebuilt with proper shelves.
