Fitted wardrobes in TW14: how it works

Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, from the floor to the ceiling and from wall to wall. That leaves no gap above to gather dust and no wasted space at the sides. For a bedroom in TW14, we start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need. Typical reasons to get in touch are standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall and empty alcoves in the bedroom; the furniture is made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.

On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next, one at a time. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. At the design visit, we measure the room, check the walls, floor and ceiling and plan the doors and inside with you.
  3. We send a written quote with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
  5. Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.

How our quotes work

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. It helps to talk about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Ask for a quote

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, get in touch through our contact form.

Local landmarks in Feltham

We fit furniture in homes around St Lawrence Catholic Primary School, Christ Church and Moon On The Square pub. You will also find Rivers Academy West London (a few minutes’ walk north-west) and Hounslow Heath (1.2 miles north-east). Feltham has its own railway station: Feltham station. Other landmarks nearby include Kempton Steam Museum (1.6 miles south). Open spaces near Feltham include Pevensey Road Nature Reserve.

Fitted wardrobes across TW14: local notes

Across TW14, from Feltham, Bedfont and Hatton outwards, we design and fit fitted wardrobes. On an external wall, ventilation is designed in to help keep condensation away. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.

The biggest shares of homes in TW14 were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 32%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Around a third of the homes in the TW14 postcode district (about 32%) date from between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. A quarter or more of the homes in the TW14 postcode district (about 25%) were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Post-war bedrooms are normally simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, fixed to suit the wall.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in TW14 are well within our area. Tell us about access and parking when you first get in touch.

Feltham: Close to Hounslow Heath? Fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If you live in a period home close to Christ Church, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Older homes rarely have straight walls or level floors. A standalone wardrobe can lean, rock or show tapering gaps. We set fitted wardrobes level and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • How the doors are hung and adjusted
  • Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
  • Whether they measure the room themselves
  • How parking will work on your street

The problems fitted wardrobes solve

After a loft conversion, the new bedroom normally needs storage that suits the slopes. Storage built into the slope uses space that would otherwise go to waste, keeping the room clear.

Fitted wardrobes can help with:

  • Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
  • Clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms
  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast
  • Several odd pieces where one run of storage would do

Honest limits

Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, from an electrician to a plumber or a Gas Safe engineer. Here is what to bear in mind:

  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
  • Electrical work, such as moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
  • Decorating or plastering the room

Caring for painted furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it is worth looking after. A few pointers help:

  • Empty the area where we will be working
  • Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • In a leasehold flat, read the lease first

Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, handle the doors with care and do not scrub the surfaces.

Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. Opening a window now and then helps.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths.

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Questions we’re often asked

Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?

The space in front of the wardrobe usually decides it. If a bed or a door is close, sliding doors can make more sense, and in a roomier space hinged doors give easier access. We will look at the room with you during the design visit.

Will you travel outside London?

No. We only take on work in London, across all the boroughs and the City of London.

Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?

Yes. We plan ventilation behind and inside wardrobes on external walls. Any existing damp needs dealing with before fitting.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

How do I get started?

It’s easiest to use our contact form with a few details about the room. After that, we arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.

Do I need planning permission for fitted furniture?

Not normally. Inside a house, fitted furniture does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings may need listed building consent for works that affect their character, so check with the council first.

What if my bedroom floor is not level?

Uneven floors are normal in older homes. We set fitted wardrobes level on a plinth or adjustable feet.
