Fitted wardrobes across TW4: what to expect
Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. Long coats and dresses need one tall section, while shirts, jackets and folded trousers suit two rails, one above the other. We plan for the people using it too, keeping rails at a height they can reach. Typical reasons to get in touch are gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and wardrobes that are full to bursting, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed.
When we arrive on fitting day, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections built in our workshop. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.
- You get in touch and tell us about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the room and agree the layout and doors.
- Your written quote follows, setting out the design, materials and finish.
- The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then sprayed if you chose a spray finish.
- The wardrobes are fitted and scribed, with any hand painting done in the room.
- At the end we check each door and drawer with you; fresh paintwork needs gentle handling while it cures.
What affects the price in TW4
The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Fitted wardrobes for homes across TW4
Across TW4, bedrooms range from period rooms with high ceilings to compact rooms in newer blocks. The design follows the room, not a catalogue, with the inside laid out around what you keep.
In TW4, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 32%) and before 1919 (about 29%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. We take that into account at the design visit, since older and newer walls take different fixings. Around a third of the homes in TW4 (about 32%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead. Of the 4 places we have local pages for in TW4, 1 has its centre inside a conservation area, going by Historic England’s records. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission.
In London, the route into a home matters as much as the room, so we look at both at the measuring visit.
Hounslow West: For families living near Hounslow Heath Infant and Nursery School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. Near listed buildings like Church of St Paul, less than half a mile north-east of the centre of Hounslow West, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent.
Pricing fitted wardrobes in TW4
Every room is different, so every job is quoted on its own. This is what makes the difference:
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- How big the furniture is
We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a written quote. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.
What we need to know
To give us a picture of the room, it is useful to include:
- What the furniture needs to hold
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. Afterwards, we send a quote in writing. To book one, use our contact form.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can use the full height and width.
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t typically do that in an older room.
Boards, parts and paint
Birch plywood
For drawers that are used every day, birch plywood boxes are hard-wearing.
Hand-painted finish
Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. Small marks are simple to touch up, and it works well in a period bedroom.
Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in TW4
Moving home often prompts it. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom, or may not make it up the stairs. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.
People typically get in touch with us about needs like these:
- Too little room for clothes
- Dusty space on top of the wardrobe
- A sloping ceiling that is hard to use
- Empty alcoves in the bedroom
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Large flat-pack wardrobes can be hard to build in a small bedroom. Our wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors, then put together in the room.
What to check before you book
- Whether they can show you real projects they’ve done
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- Are the boards named, such as MDF or plywood?
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
Questions we are often asked
Can you fit wardrobes under a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings. The slope is measured at the design visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.
Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?
Yes, as long as it is ventilated. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we plan airflow behind and within it to help avoid condensation and mould.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Do you do the electrics?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it’s a job for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You choose it. We agree the colour with you.
Do I need permission in a conservation area?
Not typically. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different: check with the council’s conservation officer first.
Do you work in TW4?
Yes. We cover TW4 and the rest of Hounslow. To get a quote, tell us about the room on our contact form.
