Fitted wardrobes for your home in Aperfield

Fitted wardrobes in Aperfield: what you get

Doors can be hinged or sliding. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. Which suits your room is something we talk through when we visit. If your home has musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall and wasted space beside the chimney breast, fitted wardrobes made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish can solve it.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Aperfield, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.

The quote comes in writing, so you can read it at your own pace and share it with anyone else involved. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

What fitted wardrobes cannot fix

Damp treatment and building work are for other specialists, and there are a few other limits too:

  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Building work to create a loft room
  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)

If in doubt, you can get in touch through our contact form and describe the room. How it works.

What goes into it

  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Hinged or sliding doors

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, so there is typically a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there’s nowhere for dust to collect on top. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

Every room is priced on its own, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

How fitting day works

Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. Clearing the room and the way in beforehand helps the day run well. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you. Hinged or sliding doors are part of that conversation.
  3. You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors. The rails, shelves and drawers go in last.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Advice

Common questions about fitted wardrobes

Do you make fitted wardrobes for homes in Aperfield?

Yes, Aperfield is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Bromley and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Oxted station?

Yes, homes across Bromley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

Can you fit wardrobes in a top-floor flat?

Each wardrobe is built in sections that suit the stairs, landings and lift. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two ways to finish it: by spray or by hand. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?

Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We talk through both during the design visit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

Someone needs to let us in. It is good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is typically cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Aperfield

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Aperfield were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 29%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 25%), going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Aperfield include St Mark's Church (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. For a listed home, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent from the council, for instance removing or fixing into original panelling. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. TfL’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers every part of London, Bromley included. So any van that delivers or fits furniture in Aperfield is covered by it. We plan parking and access with you at the measuring visit.

If you live in a flat close to Oxted station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your children go to Biggin Hill Primary School or a school nearby, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Down House, about 1.7 miles north, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

How we price fitted wardrobes

Each piece is designed for one room, so each price is too. The things that affect it are:

  • The internal fittings
  • Parking near your home
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted

In London, parking can affect the price. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking during the design visit, so we can plan for it.

Helping us understand the room

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll normally ask about:

  • Where you live, with the postcode
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Approximate measurements of the space
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. Everything is measured properly when we visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To arrange it, use our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
