Fitted wardrobes across TN16: what to expect

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribing them to the walls and ceiling. Typical reasons to get in touch are clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and a bedroom that never feels tidy, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

  1. You get in touch and let us know about the room.
  2. We come to measure and talk through the design, including the doors and the finish.
  3. We send a quote in writing.
  4. We build the wardrobes in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribed to the walls and ceiling; a hand-painted finish is done on site.
  6. Before we leave, we go through the doors and drawers with you. New paint takes time to cure, so treat it gently at first.

What goes into your quote

Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Near you in Biggin Hill

Around Biggin Hill, we cover homes near Oaklands Primary Academy, St Mark's Church and Charles Darwin School and the streets around them. The closest station to Biggin Hill is Woldingham station, about 3.8 miles south-west. Open spaces near Biggin Hill include West Kent Golf Course nature reserve.

Homes across TN16 and their bedrooms

Across TN16, bedrooms range from period rooms with high ceilings to compact rooms in newer blocks. The design follows the room, not a catalogue, with the inside laid out around what you keep.

Homes built between 1945 and 1972 make up about 38% of the housing in TN16, with about 28% built between 1973 and 1999, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. More than a third of the homes in the TN16 postcode district (about 38%) were built between 1945 and 1972, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Post-war bedrooms are normally simple shapes, which suits fitted furniture along a whole wall, with fixings chosen for concrete, block or brick. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 70% of households in TN16, based on Census 2021. A house like that usually has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

We cover the whole of London, so homes in TN16 are well within our area. If you are unsure about access or parking, mention it when you get in touch.

Biggin Hill: For a family home near Oaklands Primary Academy, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. For a flat near Woldingham station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

When you need someone else

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • Treating damp or mould on the walls
  • Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
  • Redecorating around the wardrobes

What prompts fitted wardrobes

A move is a common trigger. Standalone wardrobes from a previous home may not fit the new bedroom. Built-in wardrobes are planned for the room you live in now.

Here are some of the needs we are asked about most:

  • Empty alcoves in the bedroom
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • Standard wardrobes that do not fill the wall
  • Not enough hanging space

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Older homes rarely have straight walls or level floors. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Can you see real work of theirs?
  • How they deal with uneven walls and floors
  • Whether they measure the room themselves

Pricing fitted wardrobes in TN16

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The width and height of the space
  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The number of doors and drawers

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit, so size comes first. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Helping us understand the room

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it helps to send:

  • Anything in the way, like radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • What the furniture needs to hold

The design visit is where every quote starts. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and go through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit, so you can take your time with it. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.

Looking after your furniture

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Mention if the wardrobe will go on an external wall
  • Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
  • Have sockets moved before the wardrobes go in
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open

Don’t pack clothes tight against the back panel, especially on an external wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.

Avoid drying clothes in the bedroom where you can, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. A little ventilation in the room helps.

Questions we are often asked

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.

What affects the price of fitted wardrobes?

Every job is priced for its room: the size, what goes inside, the finish and how square the room is all count. You’ll get a written quote once we’ve measured up.

Will fitted wardrobes get up the stairs to my flat?

We plan the sections around the route into your flat. Let us know about any concierge or lift booking rules.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. We paint the furniture itself, by spray or by hand.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in TN16?

The first step is to use our contact form with a few details about the room. We then arrange a design visit, measure up and send a quote in writing.

Will a sloping floor cause problems for fitted wardrobes?

It is common, and it’s allowed for. The wardrobe is set level with a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls so the doors close neatly.

Where is the furniture made?

We make it in our workshop. Then we bring it to your home and fit it.
