Fitted wardrobes in Bromley: what you get
In a period bedroom, the alcoves beside the chimney breast make natural wardrobe spaces. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature. Picture rails and cornices can be met neatly or cut around. Typical reasons to get in touch are bedroom alcoves that could hold clothes and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes, and the answer is built in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
In a part of London with mixed housing, like much of the city, bedrooms range from box rooms to large rooms with bays and sloping ceilings. Fitted wardrobes can work in any of them, from a small spare room to a main bedroom. Every wall in Bromley homes is measured on site, because none is assumed to be square.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

What happens on fitting day
Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. For a flat, building rules and lift booking are worth checking early; for a house, steps, paths and parking are the things to mention. Either way, the day is planned at the design visit. Saturdays can be arranged.
- It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
- At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
- You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician in advance

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, drop us a line using the contact form, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

Before and after fitting day
People planning fitted wardrobes often ask about these. They’re worth knowing whatever the room:
- Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
Doors can settle a little once the wardrobes are filled. Hinges can normally be adjusted to line the doors up again, and sliding doors can be adjusted on their runners.
Do not overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads, so mention anything unusually heavy when we plan.
Flat-pack or bespoke?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Fitted furniture is made to the room’s measurements, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
Long shelves are where off-the-shelf often struggles. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That’s something we plan for in the design.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so let us know about it at the design visit.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Is Bromley in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
My home in Bromley is a flat. How do you get the furniture in?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. Fitted wardrobes are built in our workshop in sections sized to fit that route, then assembled in your flat. If your building has rules on lift booking or working hours, or your lease needs consent for alterations, it is worth checking those early.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
How long will the fitting take?
The fitting depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. The wardrobes are built in our workshop first before we come to fit them.
Can I send photos ahead of the visit?
Yes. Pictures help us understand the room before the design visit, along with rough sizes. Show anything the furniture has to work around, such as radiators or sockets.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front. We talk through both during the design visit.
Fitted wardrobes in Bromley: local notes
Homes built before 1919 make up about 37% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Bromley, with about 23% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Bromley, Historic England’s list includes Church of St Peter and St Paul (Grade II*), less than half a mile north, and National Westminster Bank (Grade II), less than half a mile north. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in the rest of London are set locally. Depending on your street in Bromley, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Parking near your home is worth mentioning during the design visit.
For a family home near St Mark's Church of England Primary School, the inside of fitted wardrobes can be laid out with adjustable shelves, so the space keeps up as children grow. Living in a block of flats near Bromley South station? Then it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. The wider area includes historic houses like Bromley Palace, about 0.3 miles east. For a period home anywhere nearby, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.
Bromley is about 4 miles east of Orpington, within the London Borough of Bromley. From period terraces to newer flats in Bromley, we measure the room as it is and design around it. We cover places right across the rest of London.
We cover every part of the BR2, BR1, BR6 and BR5 postcode area for fitted wardrobes. You will find streets here such as High Street, Church Road and St Paul's Square, and we cover homes on all of them for fitted wardrobes. Bromley is near the A222 and A223; on busy main roads, unloading fitted wardrobes takes a little planning. Neighbouring places we cover for fitted wardrobes include Sundridge (1 mile north-east), Plaistow (1 mile north), Bickley (1 mile east), Widmore (1 mile east) and Downham (2 miles north). We also make fitted wardrobes in nearby places such as Orpington (4 miles east), Beckenham (2 miles west), St Mary Cray (4 miles east), Chislehurst (2 miles north-east), Penge (3 miles west) and Anerley (4 miles west).
Near you in Bromley
In Bromley, that includes homes near Holy Trinity College Bromley, The Richmal Crompton pub and Bullers Wood School for Boys. Bromley has its own railway station: Bromley South station. A little further out are Bethlem Museum of the Mind (1.6 miles south-east) and Bromley Hospital (a few minutes’ walk south-east).
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Walls and floors in older homes are seldom straight or level. Standalone wardrobes may lean or leave uneven gaps against the wall. Ours are levelled on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the walls. Ready-made furniture rarely suits a recess, a slope or an odd corner, and most homes have one somewhere. Built-in pieces are made to fit them.
We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.
