Flats, leases and landlords

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that’s best sorted before fitting day. We can’t give advice on leases.

About our fitted home offices in Stanmore

Storage keeps a home office calm. Drawers for stationery, cupboards for files and a printer, and shelves for books and folders, so the work surface stays clear. Doors keep clutter out of sight at the end of the day. We design the storage around your work, wherever you are in Stanmore. If your home has a desk in the wrong light and cables trailing across the desk and floor, home offices made from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed can solve it.

In a house with several bedrooms, the question is often which room works best as an office. Interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up much of the housing around Stanmore, and they can offer a choice of rooms. Light, noise and where the broadband comes in all matter. We can look at the options together at the measuring visit.

The written quote is your record of the job. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished.

What it costs

Not every room costs the same, and it comes down to:

  • Parking near your home
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

What to send when you contact us

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll normally ask about:

  • A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. Each room is different, so we quote after seeing it, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Common questions about fitted home offices

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Stanmore?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to let us know about parking at the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.

Do you cover homes near Harrow & Wealdstone station?

Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.

How do you get the furniture up the stairs?

The furniture is built in sections, sized for the route not just the room. That is why we measure the stairs, lift and doorways during the design visit.

Can you fit sockets in the desk?

That’s work for your electrician. The furniture is designed to suit, with routes for chargers and screens. They can then be fitted where we’ve allowed for them.

Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?

That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Do I need the building owner’s consent?

Possibly. It depends on your lease, and some require the building owner’s consent for alterations. Your lease is something we cannot advise on.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Long, thin shelves can bow under books. How far a shelf spans and what it carries make a difference. Shelves are made to suit the load, with thicker shelves or support where the span is long. Off-the-shelf units come in set widths, so a run along a wall usually ends with a gap, which fitted furniture avoids. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Why choose us

  • Work across the whole of London
  • Built around your room
  • Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Scribed to uneven walls

What happens on fitting day

If anything comes up on the day, just ask. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so the day itself is about careful fitting. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in.

  1. To begin, send us a few details through our contact form; a brief note on the room and your desk set-up is plenty.
  2. We visit to measure and plan the desk, shelves and storage, and look at where the light falls. New sockets or wiring are a job for your electrician, ideally before fitting.
  3. You receive a written quote for the office.
  4. The office furniture is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with gaps for cables planned in.
  5. The desk and shelves are fitted, with the cable routes ready for your equipment.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Starting with a design visit

We quote once we’ve seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To book a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

What prompts fitted home offices in Stanmore

A spare room that has to do two jobs is another reason. Fitted furniture can make room for both. It puts the room to work most of the time.

Some of the things we’re asked to solve include:

  • Working at the kitchen table
  • Work things on show in the evening
  • A corner too odd for a standard desk
  • Wires with no tidy route

The wider area includes historic houses like Headstone Manor, about 2.5 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.
