Fitted home offices in Belmont
Where the window sits affects how comfortable the desk will be. Glare from a window can make a screen tiring to use. We plan the desk position with the window in mind, often with the light to one side. It is one of the first things we look at in Belmont. Most enquiries start with wires with no tidy route and a spare room that has to be an office and a guest room; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around Belmont, a dining room or spare bedroom is often the room that has to double as an office. Cupboards that close over the desk let the room switch back when you’ve finished. We plan the cable routes around your sockets.
Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Home working in Belmont: local notes
The biggest shares of homes in the area around Belmont were built between 1919 and 1939 (about 61%) and before 1919 (about 14%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Part of Belmont is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. The council can confirm if you are not sure. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Harrow is no exception. Where a street in Belmont is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. Let us know what the parking is like at the measuring visit.
If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Kenton Lane Farmhouse, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. If your own home is listed, check with the council before fixing into original features. If your children go to St Joseph's Catholic Primary School or a school nearby, a desk with shelves and closed storage can serve both work and homework.

How fitting day works
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is typically only filling and touching up to do in the room; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. The finish is always the one agreed in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.
- You get in touch and describe the space you want to work in.
- At the design visit we measure up and plan a desk and storage that follow the shape of the room.
- Your written quote sets out the design, materials and finish.
- Everything is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each piece is set level and scribed to the walls, so there are no gaps along the edges.
- The finish is either sprayed in our workshop or hand-painted once everything is in.
How to prepare
- Make sure pets are kept safely away
- Arrange any electrical changes with your electrician ahead of time
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
Ask for a quote
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. For a quote, message us from the contact page.

What prompts fitted home offices in Belmont
Some people want to separate work from home life. With doors over the desk, work can be put away at the end of the day. It makes the house feel like home again in the evening.
People normally get in touch with us about needs like these:
- Glare from a window on the screen
- A guest room that’s needed for work
- Wires with no tidy route
- A desk buried under papers
The wider area includes historic houses such as Headstone Manor, about 1.6 miles west. If your own home is a period one, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.
Before you hire any carpenter
- Will other trades be needed, and who arranges them?
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How doors and drawers are fitted
- Have they thought about parking near you?
Questions from Belmont
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Harrow & Wealdstone station?
Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Belmont?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the measuring visit.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
We plan the route in at the measuring visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Can a home office go in a loft room?
Yes, in a converted loft room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so you can stand at the desk. Shelving and cupboards can fill the lower space under the slope.
Do pictures help?
Yes. They give us a feel for the space before we visit, along with rough sizes. It helps to show radiators, sockets and anything else on the wall.
Do you wire in sockets for the home office?
We do not do electrical work, so sockets are for your electrician. We design the desk with cable routes and leave room where sockets will go. We can agree where sockets should go when we visit.
How we price fitted home offices
Several things affect the price:
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Awkward walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
- The width and height of the space
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.
What to send when you contact us
Ahead of the design visit, we will typically ask about:
- Examples of the look you are after
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- How you want to use the space
- Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
To make a start, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us which room you have in mind. We then arrange a design visit to measure and discuss the design, and a written quote follows.
When is bespoke worth it?
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.
Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Flats, leases and landlords
Leaseholders should check the lease before anything is fixed to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations, and that is best sorted before fitting day. We cannot advise on your lease, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. Fixings are chosen to suit whatever the wall is made of, which we check during the design visit.
