Sipson Under-Stairs Storage

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make under-stairs storage for homes in Sipson, each designed at a visit to your home.

  • The low end of the space going to waste
  • A staircase with untidy space beneath it
  • A meter or fuse board buried behind clutter

Under-stairs storage for your home in Sipson

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

What you see of the storage is mostly the doors and drawer fronts. They can be plain or panelled, with handles chosen to suit the hall. Their tops follow the angle of the stairs.

Pull-out drawers

A tall pull-out drawer can hold coats on a rail or a vacuum cleaner standing up. Shorter drawers lower down suit shoes and bags. We plan the mix at the design visit.

Under-stairs storage in Sipson

In some homes the stairs rise from the living room or kitchen, so the storage beneath them is on show. Here the doors, drawer fronts and finish matter as much as the storage behind them. We can make plain or panelled fronts, painted to sit with the walls or to stand out. In Sipson or anywhere else, the aim is storage that looks considered, not added on. People usually come to us about wanting a quiet corner for paperwork and cleaning things with no proper home, and the answer is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Homes in an area like Sipson can come from many different periods, and so do the tricky corners, from bays and stairs to halls and eaves. Under-stairs cupboards are designed for the space you have. Any meters, fuse boards or boilers stay accessible.

After the design visit, we send you a written quote. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, where scribing and fixings that suit the wall are important.

What under-stairs storage cannot fix

It is worth being clear about where our work stops:

  • Moving a gas or electricity meter, which is arranged through your energy supplier
  • Reshaping or rebuilding the staircase
  • Moving gas pipes under the stairs

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can drop us a line using the contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Your questions about under-stairs storage in Sipson

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Sipson?

It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It’s useful to let us know about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to West Drayton station?

Yes, homes across Hillingdon and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

Do I need to be at home on fitting day?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

What happens at the design visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a written quote follows.

Is it possible to have a desk built under the stairs?

That depends on the shape of your stairs and the room beside them. We look at it at the measuring visit and tell you honestly whether it will work. If it does, a compact desk with shelving can suit paperwork and a laptop.

What happens on fitting day

Furniture made in a workshop still has to meet the room it’s going into, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so each edge that meets a wall is scribed to follow it. How long the fitting itself takes depends on how much storage you want under the stairs, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. London parking ranges from controlled zones to driveways and private bays, so let us know what applies during the design visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. To begin, tell us about the room on our contact form; a brief note on the space and what it holds now is plenty.
  2. At the design visit we measure the space and plan the storage around the meters, so readers and engineers can still reach them.
  3. You receive a written quote for the storage.
  4. The storage is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with access to the meters planned in.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed to the stairs and the walls, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

Starting with a design visit

Every quote follows a design visit. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and go through the design with you, then send a quote in writing. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, message us from the contact page.

What it costs

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • Spray painting or hand painting
  • The width and height of the space
  • Tricky walls, sloping ceilings and uneven floors
  • Parking and unloading on your street

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What to send when you contact us

There’s no need for exact sizes or plans. Just send what you can:

  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for

Pictures help us understand the room before we visit. A few pictures showing the walls, the corners and where the ceiling meets them give us a good feel for the space. To send them over, get in touch through our contact form, and we’ll suggest a time for a design visit.

Storage in Sipson homes: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Sipson were built since 2000 (about 34%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 27%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for under-stairs cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Near the centre of Sipson, Historic England’s list includes The King William IV Public House (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west, and Lanz Farmhouse (Grade II), about 0.5 miles south-west. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features such as panelling can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. About 34% of homes around Sipson were built since 2000, well above the figure for Hillingdon as a whole, about 16%, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

If you live near Lake Farm Country Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and under-stairs cupboards can give those things a place. For a family home near Cherry Lane Primary School, under-stairs cupboards can be planned around what a family needs to keep, from coats and bags to sports kit. If your home is one of the older houses near Christ Church, pull-out drawers can reach right to the back of a deep under-stairs space.
