Our fitted wardrobes across UB3

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, and clothes pressed against a cold wall can lead to condensation. Where a wardrobe goes on an external wall, we plan ventilation behind and inside it to help avoid condensation and mould. We use moisture-resistant MDF, which suits that position. Typical reasons to get in touch are clothes with nowhere proper to go and no space in front for doors to swing; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

However carefully a piece is made in the workshop, it still has to meet the room, and fitting day is where that happens. Walls in older homes are rarely flat or square, so we scribe the edges by hand to follow the wall, closing the gaps a standard unit would leave. How long the fitting itself takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.

  1. You describe the bedroom and the storage you need.
  2. A design visit follows, where we measure and agree the layout.
  3. A quote in writing follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place.

What affects the price in UB3

Parking is part of the price picture in London. The boroughs run controlled parking zones across much of the city, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Let us know about parking during the design visit.

Arranging a design visit

If you already have something in mind, tell us; if you do not, that’s fine, and we can work it out together. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Fitted wardrobes across UB3: local notes

From Hayes, Cranford and Harlington to the quieter streets, bedrooms across UB3 range from box rooms to large rooms with bays. Each design uses the room’s own widths and height. Hanging, shelves and drawers inside are arranged around what you store.

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 48% of the housing in UB3, with about 19% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. More than a third of the homes in the UB3 postcode district (about 48%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, a good spot for fitted furniture built around the bulkhead. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 47% of households in UB3, based on Census 2021. A house like that usually has more rooms to plan around than a flat, and sometimes a driveway that makes unloading easier.

We make fitted furniture for every kind of home in UB3, from Victorian terraces to new-build flats. The process is the same wherever you are: a design visit, a written quote, then making and fitting.

Hayes: Living in a block of flats near Hayes & Harlington station? Then fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. If you live in a period home close to Church of St Mary, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Boards, parts and paint

Doors and drawer fronts

Hinged doors suit rooms with space in front. Sliding doors suit narrow rooms.

Hand-painted finish

Hand painting can be done in your home after fitting. It is easy to touch up later, and it suits a softer, traditional look.

What it costs

There is no set price, because there’s no set room. What affects it comes down to:

  • Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
  • Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The overall size of the piece

We don’t publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. Instead, we measure, go through the design and then quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, use our contact form.

Getting in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we will usually ask about:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Approximate measurements of the space

The design visit is where every quote starts. We take full measurements, see how true the walls and floors are and work through the design together. A written quote follows the visit for you to look over. To book one, drop us a line using the contact form.

Tips worth knowing

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. These are worth keeping in mind:

  • In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
  • Look at how many long coats and dresses you have

Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. For the first while, open and close the doors gently and avoid knocking hangers against the inside.

Let doors close gently rather than slamming, and keep sliding doors from crashing into the ends. It keeps hinges and runners in adjustment longer.

What we do not do

Before you plan the job, it helps to know what we do not do:

  • Treating damp or mould on the walls
  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. Older London rooms tend to have leaning walls, sloping floors and alcoves of different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: flat-pack is usually cheaper to buy. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Questions we’re often asked

Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors give full access but need clear space in front. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.

What are your fitted wardrobes made from?

We build with moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job best. The materials are named in your written quote.

Can you build wardrobes around a bed?

Yes. Wardrobes can sit either side of the bed with a bridge of cupboards above. We plan it so the bed fits comfortably and the room still feels open.

Do you work on Saturdays?

Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.

How long are you in the house for fitting?

The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.

Do you move sockets or add lighting?

No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

How do you get fitted wardrobes into a flat?

The wardrobes are made in sections sized to get up the stairs, into the lift and through the doors. We measure the stairs, landings and lift as well as the bedroom. In a leasehold flat, it’s worth checking the lease first.
