Motspur Park Walk-in Wardrobes
Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make walk-in wardrobes for homes in Motspur Park, each designed at a visit to your home.
- Proper shoe storage
- Separate space for two people’s clothes
- A dressing table with drawers and a mirror

Walk-in wardrobes in Motspur Park: what you get
Drawers, shelves and shoe storage make a walk-in wardrobe work day to day. Folded knitwear sits well on shelves, while drawers hold smaller things and shoes get shelving of their own. A dressing table with a mirror can be built in where there’s space. Typical reasons to get in touch are a calmer, clearer bedroom and the right mix of long and short hanging; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
With interwar houses or semis a big part of the housing around Motspur Park, bedrooms typically have regular walls, a window on one side and sometimes a chimney breast. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. Where a loft conversion has been added, the sloping ceiling can take storage too.
Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Bedroom storage in Motspur Park
Homes built before 1919 make up about 34% of the housing in the area around Motspur Park, with about 31% built between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. 7 conservation areas have at least part of their area less than a mile from the middle of Motspur Park. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside. Controlled parking zones are run by the boroughs, so the rules in Kingston upon Thames are set locally. If parking near you is controlled, a visitor permit or a bay suspension may be needed, and the council arranges suspensions, often with notice. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Close to Beverley Park? Walk-in wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. Near listed buildings like The Royal Oak Public House, less than half a mile south-west of the centre of Motspur Park, older homes may keep original joinery that walk-in wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. If you live in a flat close to New Malden station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
A bespoke walk-in wardrobe takes more planning than buying a system, and it costs more. What you get is storage designed for what you own and the space you have. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
The finish affects the cost: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Floors and doorways are protected while the pieces come in.
- You tell us about the room.
- At the design visit we measure the walls, floor and ceiling at several points, as few rooms are truly square.
- A written quote follows.
- The units are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- On fitting day each unit is levelled and scribed to follow the walls.
- We check everything with you, and fresh paint should be treated gently at first.
Getting ready for fitting day
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
- Empty the space we will be working in
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
How to get a quote
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we have measured, and the written quote then sets it out. To start, message us from the contact page.

Tips worth knowing
Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:
- Consider a mix of doors and open shelves
- Have a clear-out before we measure
- Plan lighting with your electrician
- Count your coats and long garments
Once the units are fitted, the paint needs time to cure fully. Treat the doors and drawer fronts gently at first and avoid harsh cleaners.
Before the design visit, sort through your clothes. We plan the layout around your clothes, so it is worth having a sort-out first.
Common questions about walk-in wardrobes
Can you make walk-in wardrobes for a home in Motspur Park?
Yes. We cover all of Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London, and Motspur Park is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.
Do you cover homes near New Malden station?
Yes, homes across Kingston upon Thames and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you contact us.
Can you fit furniture to uneven walls?
Walls and floors that are not true are part of the job in older homes. The furniture is scribed to follow the walls and levelled on feet or a plinth, so it sits tight to the room.
Do I need to be at home on fitting day?
Someone needs to let us in at the start of the day. It’s good to have someone there at the end to look over the work with us.
How long does fitting take?
Every room is different. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote.
DIY, flat-pack or bespoke
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that aren’t square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, and standard units leave gaps.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well, and it is quick to buy.
