Walk-in wardrobes in Bushey Mead: what you get

You can have doors, open storage or a mix. Doors keep dust off and give a calm look, while open storage lets you see everything at once. We’ll discuss the options during the design visit. If your home has room for a growing wardrobe and proper shoe storage, that’s what walk-in wardrobes are for, made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Around Bushey Mead, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. Small rooms like that suit walk-in wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

The written quote is your record of the job. It sets out the walk-in wardrobe designed for your room, what it’s made from and how it is finished, and the workshop works from it.

Why bespoke in Bushey Mead?

Modular units are made in fixed sizes, so the space above and at the ends is often wasted. We can build right up to the ceiling and from wall to wall, which can add a lot of storage. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Why choose us

  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Workshop-made and fitted by us
  • Work across the whole of London
  • Saturday work by arrangement

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture usually costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is tricky, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls.

Boards, parts and paint

Moisture-resistant MDF

MDF stays flat and paints beautifully, in any colour you choose.

Doors and drawer fronts

We can include a dressing table with drawers if the room allows.

How fitting works for walk-in wardrobes

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room and take up the floor coverings. Before we leave, we go over the finished piece together and answer any questions. How long the fitting takes depends on how much hanging, shelving and drawer space goes in, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. Fitting day starts with protecting the floors and setting out the pieces. The pieces are levelled, fitted to the walls and fixed back.

  1. We start with the room you have in mind and what needs a home.
  2. We come to measure the room and go through how the space should work.
  3. You get a quote in writing for the design we have agreed, for you to read through.
  4. We build the carcasses, drawers and shelves in our workshop, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the walk-in wardrobe in your home, scribed to the walls and set level. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.

Before we arrive

  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Have your electrician move any sockets or switches beforehand

How to get a quote

You don’t need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly at the design visit, including how level the floor and ceiling are. To get started, drop us a line using the contact form with a few details about the room. The written quote follows the visit.

Advice

Fitted bedroom furniture in Bushey Mead

About 39% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Bushey Mead went up before 1919, and about 33% between 1919 and 1939, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how walk-in wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Near the centre of Bushey Mead, Historic England’s list includes Methodist Church (Grade II), less than half a mile north-west, and Cote Cottage (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, may need listed building consent. The council’s conservation officer is the person to ask before work starts. Many London boroughs run controlled parking zones, and Merton sets its own rules. Depending on your street in Bushey Mead, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a council bay suspension may be needed. Let us know what the parking is like during the design visit.

Close to Cannon Hill Common? Morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window. Southside House, about 0.7 miles north-west, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where walk-in wardrobes go. For a flat near Raynes Park station, it helps to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day.

Common questions about walk-in wardrobes

Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Bushey Mead?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.

Is Bushey Mead in the area you cover for walk-in wardrobes?

Yes, Bushey Mead is within the area we cover, which takes in all of Merton and the rest of London. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

What happens when you come to measure?

It is a chance to measure properly and talk through what you’d like. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

How are walk-in wardrobes priced?

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. Each walk-in wardrobe is different, so we price it after the design visit. To get started, tell us about the room on our contact form.

How is the furniture painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. The finish is agreed in your quote.

Is it better to have doors or open storage?

That depends on how you like to use the space. Doors, open rails and shelves can all be combined, and we go through the options when we measure.
