Window Seats in Wennington

Thinking about window seats in Wennington? It starts with a design visit to measure and talk through ideas, then a quote in writing, before anything is made.

  • A bay with no furniture that fits
  • Off-the-shelf pieces that never quite fit the window
  • Nowhere to keep blankets, toys or books

What affects the price in Wennington

We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How big the furniture is

Rooms that aren’t square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.

What we need to know

Some details help us understand the job before we visit. When you get in touch, it is useful to send:

  • Examples of the look you’re after
  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • Rough sizes, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres

We quote once we’ve seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. Every piece is quoted for your room after the design visit. To arrange a visit, use our contact form.

How we make window seats for Wennington

A well-made window seat gives you a place to sit in the best light in the room. We design and make window seats for bays, sash windows and recesses, typically with storage below, under a lift-up lid or in drawers. In Wennington, as everywhere we work, it begins with a visit to measure and plan. We make window seats from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a bay with no furniture that fits and a ready-made bench that doesn’t fit the bay.

Around Wennington, interwar houses or semi-detached and detached homes make up a good part of the housing. If yours is a 1920s or 1930s house, the bay window at the front, the space under the stairs and the box room are the usual places to gain storage. Any meters or fuse board under the stairs stay accessible, and the storage is planned around them.

The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. It also says how the furniture will be finished: spray painted or hand painted.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders

If your flat is leasehold, check your lease before fixing furniture to the walls. Some leases need the building owner’s consent for alterations. We cannot give advice on leases, so check it yourself or ask your managing agent.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

Fitting day, step by step

At the end, we tidy up and lift the floor protection. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and answer any questions. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Fitting day means carrying in the sections, joining them and fitting them to the walls. Spray-painted pieces come finished from the workshop, while hand painting can happen on site. Saturdays can be arranged.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the window and the room, including any radiator under it.
  2. We come to measure and plan the seat, the storage and any radiator grille with you.
  3. We send a written quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
  4. We make the seat, the lids or drawers and any grille in our workshop.
  5. We bring it to your home, fit it and leave it ready to use. Any radiator grille is fitted so heat can still reach the room.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away

How to get a quote

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit, when we’ve measured up and talked through the design. To arrange a visit, drop us a line using the contact form.

DIY, flat-pack or bespoke

It is worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.

The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

A ready-made bench is built for a flat wall and a square corner, and bay windows rarely offer either. A bench in a bay leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space at the corners. A seat made for the window follows every angle. It’s a bigger investment, and the gain is a seat that fits the space. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, so standalone furniture can still lean or leave gaps. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.

The finish affects the cost: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.

Your questions about window seats in Wennington

Do you cover homes near Rainham (Essex) station?

Yes. We cover all of Havering and the rest of London. To get started, you can message us from the contact page with some details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.

Do you make window seats for homes in Wennington?

Yes, we work across Havering, Wennington included, and across the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details.

Should I choose a lift-up lid or drawers?

The answer depends on what goes under the seat. A lid gives access to the whole space, good for blankets and occasional things, while drawers mean you do not have to move the cushion.

Can the fitting be on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

What is a window seat made from?

Our window seats are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then painted. A moisture-resistant grade suits a spot by a window, where condensation can form. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it, and it is agreed with you before painting. Whichever finish you pick, it is in the colour you’ve chosen.
