Fitted Cupboards in Belvedere

In Belvedere, we design fitted cupboards around the room you actually have. Your fitted cupboard is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

  • Landing shelves for bedding and towels
  • Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags
  • A utility room with proper storage

Looking after your furniture

Because fitted furniture stays put, a little upkeep goes a long way. A few pointers help:

  • Tell us about parking during the design visit
  • Think about how the cupboards will get in
  • Let us know about meters and boilers in the space
  • Make a note of what needs a home

Doors are hung and adjusted when we fit them. Timber and walls shift slightly through the year, so the hinges allow small adjustments later. A door that starts to rub can normally be set right at the hinge.

It’s useful to list what you want to store before we measure. A coat cupboard and a linen cupboard need quite different insides, and knowing this early saves changes later.

About our fitted cupboards in Belvedere

Utility rooms and boot rooms need storage that copes with everyday wear. Tall cupboards can take the vacuum cleaner, ironing board and cleaning things, with housing for a washing machine or tumble dryer where you want it. Your plumber connects the appliances and your electrician handles any sockets, and we leave room for their work in the design. People usually come to us about a linen cupboard on the landing and space for laundry, cleaning things and boots; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

Wherever your home in Belvedere sits in London’s mix of housing, there is usually a space that could work harder. That space can take fitted storage, laid out for what you need to keep. Walls could be brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard, so we check before choosing fixings.

After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish, so it’s clear what’s included.

What happens on fitting day

There is not much for you to do on fitting day. We need someone to let us in at the start, and the room should already be cleared, as agreed during the design visit. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking varies a lot across London, from permit zones to private bays, so let us know what’s near you during the design visit. For a flat, building rules on lifts and working hours are worth checking.

  1. It starts with a short note from you.
  2. At the design visit we measure at several points, as walls and floors in older homes are rarely flat or level.
  3. You receive a quote in writing covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The cupboards are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with a little extra left on edges that meet the walls.
  5. On fitting day each cupboard is set level on a plinth or adjustable feet and scribed to the wall.
  6. Your finish is sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site; go gently with it at first while it cures.

Before we arrive

  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Mention any parking restrictions on your street
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Getting a quote

Rough measurements are fine at the start. Everything is measured properly when we visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To get started, fill in our short enquiry form and let us know about the room. You receive a quote in writing after the visit.

Honest limits

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. It helps to know these before you plan the job:

  • Work on a boiler, which is for a Gas Safe engineer
  • Relocating meters or the fuse board
  • Electrical work inside the cupboard

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we will give you a straight answer. How it works.

What it’s made from

  • Adjustable shelves
  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Ventilated doors
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Storage in Belvedere homes: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the area around Belvedere were built before 1919 (about 26%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. That matters for fitted cupboards, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Within a mile of the centre of Belvedere, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. About 37% of households around Belvedere live in purpose-built flats, well above the figure for Bexley as a whole, about 21%, based on Census 2021. So the route in, from stairs to lifts, is part of the design.

If your home is one of the older houses near Parish Church of All Saints, an old boiler or airing cupboard can be rebuilt with proper shelves. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Parish Church of All Saints, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

The problems fitted cupboards solve

A new utility room or boot room often prompts the call. There are appliances, coats, boots and cleaning things to fit in, and a run of fitted cupboards can hold them neatly.

These come up often when people first get in touch:

  • Making use of an awkward alcove or corner
  • Storage for coats and shoes in the hallway
  • A neat cupboard around the boiler
  • Tall cupboards where space is short

The wider area includes historic houses like Red House, about 2.3 miles south-west. If your own home is a period one, an old boiler or airing cupboard can be rebuilt with proper shelves.

How to choose a carpenter in London

FAQs: fitted cupboards in Belvedere

Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Belvedere?

It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a parking bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you during the design visit, so we can plan the day around it.

Do you cover homes near Belvedere station?

Yes. We cover all of Bexley and the rest of London. To get started, you can use our contact form with some details about the room.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you have chosen.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a quote in writing.

What are the cupboards made of?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so ventilation behind and inside the furniture helps to avoid condensation. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

Shelves that carry weight need a strong board, and birch plywood is a good fit. Span, depth and load all matter.

Spray-painted finish

Spray painting suits doors and panels that you want to look crisp and even, and it is done before the cupboards reach your home.
