Fitted cupboards for homes in Sidcup

We make our cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, chosen for the job each part does. MDF is stable and takes paint well, while birch plywood is good for long shelves. We finish them by spray painting in the workshop or by hand painting, in a colour agreed with you. If you’re living with a utility room with proper storage and a cupboard for the meters with easy access, that’s what fitted cupboards are for, made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.

Many post-war homes have a boiler in a hall, kitchen or landing cupboard. If it sits in a cupboard you’d like rebuilt, the new storage keeps the clearances and ventilation set out in the manufacturer’s instructions. With many homes around Sidcup built between 1945 and the early 1970s, we look for boilers, meters and fuse boards at the measuring visit. Work on the boiler itself is for an engineer on the Gas Safe Register.

Once you have read the quote and decided to go ahead, the furniture is made at our workshop. It describes the design, the materials and the finish agreed at the visit, so every detail can be checked first.

What we do not do

We make and fit furniture, and we do not do electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering or structural work. There are a few other points to bear in mind:

  • Any plumbing in a utility room
  • Relocating meters or the fuse board
  • Wiring for lights or sockets

Not sure whether your space suits fitted cupboards? You can fill in our short enquiry form and we’ll tell you. How it works.

Fitted cupboards for homes in Sidcup

The biggest shares of homes in the streets around Sidcup were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 30%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 20%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It is a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. There are 6 entries on the National Heritage List within half a mile of the centre of Sidcup. Being near listed buildings does not make a home listed, and you can check any address on Historic England’s list. Around a third of the homes in the area around Sidcup (about 30%) were built between 1945 and 1972, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Homes from that era tend to have little built-in storage, so fitted cupboards make a real difference, with fixings chosen for the wall.

For an older house near Holy Trinity Church, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way. For a family home near Birkbeck Primary School, a place for each person’s coat and shoes stops the hallway filling up.

Sidcup is in the London Borough of Bexley. Anywhere in Sidcup, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a quote in writing, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Sidcup is one of the places in Bexley where we make fitted cupboards, and the borough has 27 places on our list.

Every home in DA14, DA15, SE9 and DA5 is within our area for fitted cupboards. Streets in the area include Station Road, High Street and Jubilee Way, and homes on each of them are within our area for fitted cupboards. Why people ask for fitted cupboards in Sidcup

Hiding a boiler or a set of meters is a common reason to call. They aren’t much to look at, yet they must stay easy to reach, so a cupboard has to be designed around them. We plan the doors, panels and ventilation with that in mind.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Somewhere for coats, shoes and bags
  • Tidying away the gas and electricity meters
  • Storage for towels and bedding
  • Built-in storage that matches the woodwork

The wider area includes historic houses such as Danson House, about 1.7 miles north. If your own home is a period one, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way.

Choosing a carpenter

  • Have they measured the stairs, lift and doorways?
  • Is it spray painted or hand painted?
  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?

Flats, leases and landlords

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, getting the furniture from the van to the door needs planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it’s worth raising during the design visit.

We also make and fit furniture for landlords furnishing a let. It’s made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work, with a spray or hand-painted finish.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Ready-made units are made in fixed sizes, so there is normally a gap at the side or a space above. A fitted cupboard can run wall to wall and floor to ceiling, so less space goes to waste. Post-war rooms are often compact, and standard furniture sizes waste space at the ends and the top, which fitted furniture uses. The pieces are made to the room’s own widths.

Awkward rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote.

What you get with us

  • Built around your room
  • We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
  • Saturday visits and fitting by arrangement

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long fitting takes depends on how many cupboards there are and where they go, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Post-war homes often have concrete or block walls, so the right fixings are part of the plan for fitting day. We protect floors and doorways as the furniture comes in.

  1. You get in touch with a few details about the space. A rough sketch helps if you have one.
  2. The design visit covers measuring and the layout inside, with a note of anything that must stay reachable.
  3. A written quote is sent to you.
  4. Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit the cupboards in your home and check every door.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know where the boiler and meters are
  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Empty the space we will be working in

Advice

Questions from Sidcup

Can you make fitted cupboards for a home in Sidcup?

Yes, we work across Bexley, Sidcup included, and across the rest of London. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Sidcup station?

Yes, homes across Bexley and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.

Do pictures help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form.

Can you fit furniture on an external wall?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Can you build a cupboard around a boiler?

Yes, provided the cupboard keeps to the boiler maker’s instructions. We plan the space and ventilation around it and make sure an engineer can reach it.

What are your cupboards made from?

We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray painting or hand painting. The materials and finish are agreed in your quote.
