Fitted wardrobes in DA17: how it works

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. Then we fit them in your home, levelling them on a plinth or adjustable feet. We make fitted wardrobes from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, and people most often get in touch about too little room for clothes and dusty space on top of the wardrobe.

On the morning of the fitting, we start by protecting your floors and the route from the front door to the room. Next, we carry in the sections made in our workshop, one at a time. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote.

  1. You contact us with a few details about the room and the wardrobes you’d like, with a rough idea of what you need to hang and fold.
  2. We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
  3. We send a written quote with the layout, materials and finish, ready for you to read through.
  4. The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
  5. We fit them in your home, scribe them to the walls and hang the doors.

Quotes in DA17

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. A larger piece means more material and more time, so size is the starting point. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a quote in writing.

Around Belvedere

We fit furniture in homes around Trinity School, Priory Club pub and Trinity Church of England School and the streets around them. Nearby too are Lessness Heath Primary School (close by, under half a mile south-west), Lesnes Abbey Woods (1.1 miles west) and Parish Church of All Saints (close by, under half a mile south-west). The nearest railway station is Belvedere station, about 0.5 miles north of the centre. Nearby you’ll also find Erith and District Hospital (0.8 miles south-east) and Erith Museum (1.1 miles east). Green spaces nearby include Crossness Nature Reserve.

Bedroom storage across DA17

Across DA17, from Erith, Belvedere and Lessness Heath outwards, we design and fit fitted wardrobes. On an external wall, ventilation is designed in to help keep condensation away. Each wall is checked so the fixings suit it.

In the DA17 postcode district, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 26%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 22%), in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next.

Controlled parking zones cover large parts of London, so a van may need a visitor permit, a pay-and-display bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges. Let us know about parking at the measuring visit.

Belvedere: Close to Lesnes Abbey Woods? Keeping fitted wardrobes off the window wall keeps the room bright. If you live in a period home close to Parish Church of All Saints, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so it is worth raising during the design visit.

Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.

Honest limits

We’d rather be clear about where our work stops:

  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Decorating or plastering the room

Caring for painted furniture

The finish lasts best with a little care, whether it was spray painted or hand painted. Here are our suggestions:

  • Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
  • Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
  • Check the route into your flat, not just the room

Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. At first, handle the doors with care.

Don’t overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads.

Materials and finishes

Birch plywood

For drawers that are used every day, birch plywood boxes are hard-wearing, standing up to daily opening.

Plinths and scribe strips

Most fitted wardrobes in older homes need scribing at the sides and top. It’s what makes the wardrobe look built in.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Flat-pack and off-the-shelf furniture has its place. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job, and it is quick to buy.

Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. Span, depth and the weight on it decide whether a shelf sags, so a long run needs a thicker shelf, a stiffening lip or a support. We design shelves with that in mind.

Questions we are often asked

Do you work outside London?

No. We work in London and nowhere else, across all the boroughs and the City of London.

Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?

Yes, as long as it’s ventilated. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe to help avoid condensation and mould.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space. You can send them when you message us from the contact page.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in DA17?

Yes, we do. We work in DA17 and across Bexley.

Do you do plastering or decorating?

No. We do not plaster or decorate. The furniture is finished by spray or by hand, as agreed in your quote.

How is the price worked out?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it. The price comes in a written quote after the design visit.

Do you do the electrics?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician, and some electrical work in homes is covered by Part P of the Building Regulations. We’ll design around them.
