What prompts fitted cupboards in High Barnet
Standard cupboards do not sit well in many period homes. Sloping floors, walls that lean and odd alcove widths leave gaps that collect dust and look untidy. A built-in cupboard follows the room instead.
Requests we hear often include:
- Landing shelves for bedding and towels
- Space for laundry, cleaning things and boots
- Floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat
- A hallway cupboard for coats and shoes
The wider area includes historic houses like Wyllyotts Manor, about 2.9 miles north. If your own home is a period one, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way.
What to check before you book
- How the furniture will be finished, and where
- Whether they measure the room themselves
- Whether the route into your home has been checked
- A quote in writing that sets out the job
About our fitted cupboards in High Barnet
Utility rooms and boot rooms need storage that copes with everyday wear. Tall cupboards can take the vacuum cleaner, ironing board and cleaning things, with housing for a washing machine or tumble dryer where you want it. Plumbing is for your plumber and new sockets for your electrician, and we leave room for their work in the design. People usually come to us about built-in storage that matches the woodwork and hiding meters and a fuse board neatly, and the answer is made in our workshop from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.
If you live in one of the interwar houses or semis around High Barnet, the hall is often wide enough for coat and shoe storage. Bay windows suit seating with drawers or lift-up lids, with a grille so any radiator below keeps heating the room. Each space is measured and fitted cupboards are made to suit it.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you’ve had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

How fitting works for fitted cupboards
The last stage of the day is the finish. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You get in touch and describe the space.
- We visit to measure the space and the route in from the street, including the stairs and doorways.
- We send a quote in writing.
- The cupboards are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
- The sections are carried in, joined and set level.
Preparing the room
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone
- Clear the area where the furniture is going

Questions we are often asked
Do you make fitted cupboards for homes in High Barnet?
Yes. High Barnet is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Barnet and London. To get started, you can tell us about the room on our contact form with some details.
Does a conservation area in or near High Barnet affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character can require listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
What happens at the measuring visit?
We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We look at the walls, floors and anything the furniture has to work around, and the written quote comes afterwards.
How are fitted cupboards priced?
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Each cupboard is different, so we price it after measuring. To get started, get in touch through our contact form.
Do you work on Saturdays?
Yes, by prior arrangement. Let us know when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.
Will the cupboards fit my uneven walls?
Yes, it’s something we deal with all the time. Few walls in a period house are straight, so every cupboard is scribed and levelled.
What it’s made from
Doors and drawer fronts
We make doors in a style that suits the room and finish them to match. Drawers can sit below for shoes or smaller things.
Spray-painted finish
We spray paint in the workshop for a smooth, factory-like finish. The colour is agreed with you.
How we price fitted cupboards
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- Spray painting or hand painting
- Parking near your home
- The width and height of the space
- Doors and drawers, and how many
Every room is priced on its own, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. You’ll see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.
Before the design visit
A few details help us understand the job before we visit. When you get in touch, it helps to send:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
- Approximate measurements of the space
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
To get a quote for fitted cupboards in High Barnet, use our contact form. Tell us which room it is and roughly what you have in mind. Next comes a design visit, followed by a quote in writing.
Is bespoke worth it?
Flat-pack cupboards can be put together quickly by a confident DIYer, which is a fair point in their favour. A fitted cupboard needs a design visit, a quote, workshop time and fitting, and in return the cupboard is built for your home. Ready-made units come in standard depths that rarely suit every space, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. Fitted furniture is made to the depth the space can take.
There is no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, talk through the design and then quote in writing. To start, get in touch through our contact form.
Why us?
- A design visit, then a written quote
- Saturday work by arrangement
- We work across all London boroughs
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
