High Barnet Bespoke Kitchens
In High Barnet, we design bespoke kitchens around the room you actually have. Your kitchen is designed at a visit to your home and made in our workshop.

How we make bespoke kitchens for High Barnet
A kitchen needs other trades as well as a carpenter. Your plumber, a Gas Safe registered engineer and your electrician do the plumbing, gas and electrics, so the design allows for pipes, cables and connections. We make kitchens from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about a layout for a small or awkward room and a central island in a larger kitchen.
In a semi or detached house, there may be space for a utility cupboard as well as the kitchen. Much of the housing around High Barnet is interwar, semi-detached or detached. Utility cupboards can be made in the same style and paint colour as the kitchen. Plumbing for any appliance is for your plumber.
The furniture is made at our workshop after you have had the quote and decided to go ahead. The quote sets out the agreed design, materials and finish, so every detail can be checked first.

Questions from High Barnet
Does a conservation area in or near High Barnet affect fitted furniture?
Not normally. Conservation area controls are mainly about the outside of buildings, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in High Barnet?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know what parking is near you at the design visit.
Will you paint the walls around the furniture?
No. We make, fit and finish the furniture, and plastering and decorating are for other trades. The furniture itself is spray painted or hand painted.
What happens when you come to measure?
We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and go through the design with you. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you contact us.
Is an outside wall a problem for fitted furniture?
An outside wall can be colder and damper than an inside one, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.
What prompts bespoke kitchens in High Barnet
Often the call comes after building work has opened up the space. A new room needs a kitchen planned for its shape and light, and building work itself is for your builder.
We’re often asked to help with:
- A kitchen that fits an uneven room
- A layout for a small or tricky room
- A kitchen planned around your appliances
- Room for everything in the kitchen
The wider area includes historic houses such as Wyllyotts Manor, about 2.9 miles north. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.
What to check before you book
- How the doors are hung and adjusted
- How parking will work on your street
- Will the quote be in writing?
- Whether the finish is set out in the quote
Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Ready-made ranges rarely include a larder or dresser that fits a particular alcove. We can build them to fit, painted to match the rest of the kitchen. Walls in interwar houses are straighter than in older ones, but rarely perfect, and standalone units can lean or gap. Fitted furniture is scribed and levelled on site.
How it’s painted is part of the price: spray painting is done in the workshop, while hand painting can be done on site. Your choice, along with the size and the fittings, is reflected in the written quote.
Why us?
- Built around your room
- A design visit, then a quote in writing
- Saturdays by prior arrangement
- Work across the whole of London
Take a look at our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf or how to compare quotes.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Shop-bought shelves can sag over a long span. How much a shelf bends depends on its span, depth and load, and long runs need a thicker shelf, a lip along the front or a support. That is something we plan for in the design.
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. In a room with square walls and standard sizes, it can work well.
Made-to-measure kitchens in High Barnet
The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around High Barnet were built before 1919 (about 42%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how kitchens are fixed and fitted. The Wood Street Conservation Area is close by, within about a quarter of a mile of the centre of High Barnet. Conservation area controls are mostly concerned with the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Each London borough runs its own parking controls, and Barnet is no exception. If your road in High Barnet falls in a zone, the van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay, which the council arranges, often with notice. Let us know about parking at the design visit.
Near listed buildings like Church of St John the Baptist, less than half a mile south-east of the centre of High Barnet, older homes may keep original joinery that kitchens can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. For an older house near Christ Church, tall ceilings can take larder cupboards right up to the top.

Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. If there’s a lift, it may need booking, and its size matters when we plan the sections. Mention it when you contact us.
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them during the design visit.

From workshop to your room
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. How long fitting takes depends on how many units there are and how the room is laid out, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It helps to clear the room and the route before we arrive. On the day, we cover the floors first, then bring the sections in. Each piece is levelled, scribed where the wall wanders and fixed to suit the wall.

Ask for a quote
A quote begins with some details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, drop us a line using the contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
