Fitted cupboards in Sutton
A boiler cupboard needs more thought than most. The boiler maker’s instructions set out the clearances and ventilation it needs, and the cupboard is built to respect them. Doors open wide enough for servicing, and any work on the boiler itself is for a Gas Safe engineer. We make fitted cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and the usual reasons to get in touch are tidying away the gas and electricity meters and floor-to-ceiling storage in a flat.
In an older home, panelled doors and painted mouldings may suit; in a newer one, plain flat doors may fit better. For a home in Sutton, door styles are talked through during the design visit. You choose the colour, spray-painted in the workshop or hand-painted on site.
A quote in writing is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the fitted cupboard we’ve designed for the room, what it’s made from and how it’s finished.

Flats, blocks and rented homes
Blocks of flats often have their own rules on lift bookings, entry systems and times for trades. Let us know about them at the measuring visit, and we’ll plan the fitting around them.
For flats on red routes or busy main roads, unloading takes some planning. TfL runs the red routes, and the stopping rules are strict, so tell us about it at the design visit.
How fitting day works
With the carcasses fixed and level, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. The time the fitting takes depends on the number of cupboards and the space they fit into, and your quote sets out the fitting days. If you live in a block, check any rules on lifts, deliveries and working hours; if you live in a house, let us know about steps, paths and parking. We plan the details of the day during the design visit. Saturday fitting is possible by prior arrangement.
- First, you tell us about the room and what it needs.
- We visit, measure and talk through doors, shelves and rails, with a note of anything that must stay reachable.
- You receive a quote in writing.
- Everything is made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit the cupboards in your home and check every door.
Getting ready for fitting day
- Keep pets out of the room and the hallway
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
Starting with a design visit

Made for the room, or bought in a box?
Standard cupboards come in set widths and heights, so there is normally a gap at the side or a space above. Ours are built to the full width and height you choose, so less space goes to waste. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in set sizes, and real rooms rarely match them, which leaves gaps at the sides and wasted space on top. Built-in pieces fill the space they’re made for.
What goes inside matters as much as the outside: drawers take more making than shelves, and each rail, divider or pull-out adds to the work. At the design visit, we work out what you need inside, then set it out in the quote.

Questions from Sutton
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.
Is Sutton in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?
Yes. We cover the whole of London, all 32 boroughs and the City of London. The first step is a design visit, where we measure and go through the design, followed by a quote.
How is the furniture painted?
There are two choices: a spray finish from the workshop, which is smooth and even, or hand painting, which can be done in your home. Your quote sets out which you’ve chosen.
How are fitted cupboards priced?
There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The size, the inside layout and the finish all make a difference. For a design visit, tell us about the room on our contact form.
What are your cupboards made from?
Our cupboards are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, then spray painted or hand painted. Your quote sets out the materials and finish.
What happens when you come to measure?
We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too.
Sutton homes and fitted cupboards
Homes built between 1973 and 1999 make up about 25% of the housing in the neighbourhood around Sutton, with about 22% built between 1945 and 1972, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Sutton is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Being in a conservation area mainly affects changes to the outside of a building, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. The ULEZ, run by TfL, takes in all of London, so the rest of London is inside it. It applies to every van that comes to fit furniture in Sutton. Parking and access are planned at the measuring visit.
If your children go to Robin Hood Junior School or a school nearby, fitted cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home. The wider area includes historic houses such as Nonsuch Mansion, about 1.6 miles west. For a period home anywhere nearby, hallway recesses and alcoves are where fitted cupboards earn their keep. If you live in a flat close to Sutton (London) station, fitted cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.

Pricing fitted cupboards in Sutton
We quote each job after the design visit, because no two rooms are the same. These are the things that affect it:
- How big the furniture is
- Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
- Where a van can park, like a permit bay or a bay suspension
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
There is no price list, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, naming the materials and finish. To arrange a design visit, message us from the contact page.
What to send when you get in touch
What helps most when you first contact us:
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- What the furniture needs to hold
- Any ideas or images you have saved
- The type of home and how the room is reached
You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit, along with the walls, floor and ceiling. To arrange it, tell us about the room on our contact form and tell us about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
