Fitted cupboards in Woodcote Green, Sutton

Walls in older London homes are rarely straight, so we scribe the furniture to follow them. We make fitted cupboards for homes in Woodcote Green, each designed at a visit to your home.

Flats, conversions and lettings

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, after measuring the route during the design visit.

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, often to make the most of a small or awkward room. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.

Fitted cupboards for homes in Woodcote Green

Many landings have a spare corner or wall that could work harder. A fitted cupboard there can hold towels, bedding and the things that never quite find a home, with shelves spaced to suit what goes on them. We plan it so doors open without catching the stairs or the banister. Most enquiries start with somewhere for coats, shoes and bags and a boiler cupboard that keeps access clear, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.

An interwar house tends to have truer walls than a Victorian one, though rarely square corners. Much of the housing around Woodcote Green is interwar, semi-detached or detached, and every piece is still scribed where it meets the wall. Lids, doors and drawers are set level on site so they run true.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Common questions about fitted cupboards

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Reedham (London) station?

Yes, homes across Sutton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can get in touch through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Is Woodcote Green in the area you cover for fitted cupboards?

Yes. Woodcote Green is one of the places we work, along with the rest of Sutton and London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details.

Who chooses the colour?

You choose it, and we agree it with you before the furniture is finished. Spray and hand-painted finishes both use the colour you have chosen.

How is the furniture painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Does fitted furniture need planning permission?

Not normally. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.

What happens during the design visit?

We measure the space and discuss the design, materials and finish. We also check the walls and floors and note radiators, sockets and other things in the way, then send a written quote.

Fitted cupboards in Woodcote Green: local notes

Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 44% of the housing in the streets around Woodcote Green, with about 21% built between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Part of Woodcote Green is in a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If you’re unsure, check with the council before work starts. More than a third of the homes in the streets around Woodcote Green (about 44%) date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Houses of that era often have a hallway wide enough for a coat and shoe cupboard, and a box room that can take more storage.

For an older house near St. Patrick's Church, a shallow cupboard in a narrow hall can hold coats without blocking the way. If you live near Carshalton Park, living near green space often means muddy boots, bikes and outdoor kit, and fitted cupboards can give those things a place. For a family home near Wallington High School for Girls, fitted cupboards can give school bags, shoes and sports kit a proper home.

What we don’t do

We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:

  • New sockets, lighting or wiring (your electrician)
  • Connecting appliances to water or waste
  • Relocating meters or the fuse board

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. If the furniture was spray painted in the workshop, we fill the fixing holes and touch up on site; hand painting, if that is what you chose, can be done in place once everything is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.

  1. You get in touch and describe the space.
  2. At the design visit we plan the cupboards and check how the sections will get in. It helps to tell us about parking then, as a van typically needs a permit or a paid bay in a controlled parking zone.
  3. We send a written quote.
  4. The cupboards are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route.
  5. The sections are carried in, joined and set level. The finish is sprayed before fitting or painted by hand on site.

Getting a quote

It helps to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To send them over, send us a few details through our contact form, and we will suggest a time for a design visit.

Materials and finishes

Doors and drawer fronts

In a narrow hallway, the way doors open matters, so nothing blocks the way.

Birch plywood

For heavily loaded cupboards, birch plywood makes a sturdy carcass, like a linen or utility cupboard.

Why bespoke in Woodcote Green?

Ready-made cupboards are typically made from chipboard with a printed or plastic finish. We use moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, painted in a colour you choose, finished to suit the room. Off-the-shelf furniture comes in a few set depths, which may be too deep for one spot and too shallow for another. With fitted furniture, the depth is chosen for the room.

Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design. A larger piece means more material and more time. After that, the number of doors and drawers, the internal fittings and the finish all play a part.
