Fitted wardrobes for your home in Headstone

Practical tips

Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after with a little care. A few things help it stay looking good:

  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Plan any socket or switch changes with your electrician before fitting
  • Work out the split between long and short hanging
  • Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed

Painted wardrobe doors only need a soft cloth that is barely damp. Skip scouring pads and harsh cleaners, as they can dull the paint.

Do not dry washing inside a wardrobe or in the bedroom with the doors shut, as the extra moisture can lead to condensation. Opening a window now and then helps.

Fitted wardrobes in Headstone: what you get

We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood in our workshop. The doors are finished with spray paint in the workshop or painted by hand, in the colour you choose. We then fit them in your home, setting them level on adjustable feet or a plinth. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the things people most often want solved are gaps above and around standalone wardrobes and damp or musty clothes against an external wall.

Bedrooms in interwar houses often have a picture rail but a plainer ceiling than a Victorian room, which makes it simple to take fitted furniture up to the ceiling. Around Headstone, where interwar homes, semis and detached houses are a big part of the housing, the top cupboards can hold suitcases and spare bedding. Skirting boards are cut around neatly.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Why bespoke in Headstone?

Standard wardrobes can’t follow a slope. A fitted wardrobe can be shaped to the ceiling line. If a house has been extended or knocked through, the new walls and the old ones may not line up, and straight-sided ready-made units make that obvious. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

What you get with us

  • Moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Made for your room, not a standard size
  • Fitted tight to walls that are not straight
  • We work across all London boroughs

What affects the price in Headstone

Several things affect the price:

  • The number of doors and drawers
  • The width and height of the space
  • The internal fittings
  • How easy it is to get the furniture into the room

Access to the room makes a difference too. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections, and that is part of the price. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

Getting in touch

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • Pictures of styles you like, if you have any
  • Your postcode and the borough
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • The type of home and how the room is reached

We quote once we have seen the room. At the visit, we measure, look at the walls and floors and discuss the design with you, and the written quote comes after. We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. To arrange a visit, get in touch through our contact form.

Bedroom storage in Headstone

In the streets around Headstone, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 45%) and between 1945 and 1972 (about 26%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Headstone, Historic England’s list includes Pinner Park Farmhouse (Grade II), under half a mile west, and Letchford House (Grade II), less than half a mile north-east. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, such as fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. More than a third of the homes in the neighbourhood around Headstone (about 45%) date from between 1919 and 1939, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Houses from that era often have a box room over the stairs, with a raised bulkhead in the floor, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.

If you live near Headstone Manor Recreation Ground, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they will not shade the window. For families living near Pinner Park Primary School, a mix of drawers and shelves copes with school uniform as well as everything else. If you live in a flat close to Headstone Lane station, check any building rules on lifts and working hours early, and the sections will be sized for the way in.

Flats, conversions and lettings

A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind, once we have measured the way in.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Headstone

Do you cover homes near Headstone Lane station?

Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you make fitted wardrobes for a home in Headstone?

Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London, and Headstone is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

What do you do at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.

How is the price worked out?

Each room is quoted on its own: size, internal fittings, the finish and how awkward the walls are all play a part. The written quote follows the design visit.

How long will the fitting take?

The fitting depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. The wardrobes are made at our workshop first, so the time in your home is mostly fitting and finishing.

Can fitted wardrobes go on an external wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we plan airflow behind and within it to help avoid condensation and mould.

How fitting day works

Before anything is fixed, we set the furniture level. Floors are often out of level, so adjustable feet or a plinth take up the difference, which keeps the lines straight. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. In a 1930s house with a converted loft, the stairs to the loft room are often steeper than the main flight, so pieces for a loft room are sized for the narrowest point. The main stairs in houses of that age are normally straighter. Each section is assembled and fixed in the room.

  1. It starts when you let us know about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn. Tell us about parking as well, as a van usually needs a permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension in much of London.
  3. You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
  4. The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.

Before fitting day

  • Move furniture and belongings away from the wall
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • Let us know if your street is in a controlled parking zone

Arranging a design visit

A quote begins with a few details from you: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. We will then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
