- Too little room for clothes

Fitted wardrobes in South Harrow
You can choose hinged or sliding doors. With hinged doors, you see a full section when you open them, though they need room in front to open. Sliding doors suit tighter rooms, although only part of the wardrobe is open at a time. We weigh them up with you at the measuring visit. Most enquiries start with an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and empty alcoves in the bedroom, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted.
Around South Harrow, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. Small rooms like that suit fitted wardrobes, whether the room is a guest room, a dressing room or a study. Nothing is assumed: the room is measured wall by wall.
After the design visit, we send you a quote in writing. It sets out the design we’ve talked through, the materials and the finish.

Bedroom storage in South Harrow
Homes built between 1919 and 1939 make up about 45% of the housing in the neighbourhood around South Harrow, with about 21% built since 2000, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. It’s a good starting point, though every room is still measured, as two homes of the same age rarely match. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of South Harrow include Parish Church of St Paul (Grade II), under half a mile west, and Christ Church (Grade II), about 0.5 miles north-east. If your own home is listed, works inside that affect its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can require listed building consent. An early word with the council’s conservation officer is the best first step. Red routes are run by TfL, with tight limits on where and when vehicles can stop. If your home is on or just off a main road, it helps to mention it. We’ll plan where the van can stop.
For families living near The Welldon Park Academy, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. The wider area includes historic houses like Northolt Manor, about 1.5 miles south-west. For a period home anywhere nearby, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
South Harrow is in the London Borough of Harrow, about 1 mile north of Harrow. Anywhere in South Harrow, the process is the same: a design visit, a quote in writing, furniture made in our workshop and fitting in your home. Our Harrow coverage includes South Harrow.
Every address in HA2, HA1 and UB5 is within our area for fitted wardrobes, from the main roads to the quieter streets. If your home is on a street like Park Lane, Grange Road and Dudley Road, or close by, we can arrange a design visit for fitted wardrobes. Other places close to South Harrow include Roxeth (1 mile north-east), Harrow (1 mile north), Harrow on the Hill (1 mile east), Rayners Lane (1 mile north-west) and Northolt (1 mile south-west). Across the rest of Harrow, our area takes in Stanmore (4 miles north-east), Hatch End (3 miles north), Harrow Weald (3 miles north), Wealdstone (2 miles north), Little Stanmore (4 miles north-east) and Greenhill (2 miles north-east).

Questions we are often asked
I live near Northolt Park station. Is that in your area?
Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room.
Does a conservation area in or near South Harrow affect fitted furniture?
Normally not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, internal works that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.
What finishes do you offer?
You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.
Does someone need to be home during the fitting?
We need someone to let us in. It also helps to have someone around at the end, so we can go over the finished furniture together.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. An outside wall is often colder than an inside one, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe to help avoid condensation and mould.
Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?
Uneven floors are normal in older homes. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.
Caring for painted furniture
Painted fitted furniture is easy to look after. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Check how much space there is in front for doors to open
- Clear the wall where the wardrobes will go before fitting day
- In a leasehold flat, read the lease first
- Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block
Do not pack clothes tight against the back panel where the wardrobe sits on an outside wall. Air moving through helps avoid condensation and mould.
Every so often, check that nothing has worked loose and adjust doors before a rub marks the paint.
Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?
Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there is nowhere for dust to collect on top. The spaces between doors, windows and radiators are seldom a stock size, which leaves ready-made pieces sitting awkwardly. Built-in pieces are planned around those fixed points.
Rooms that are not square take more work: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. That’s reflected in the quote, written once we’ve measured up.
What you get with us
- Designed for the room you have
- A design visit, then a quote in writing
- Edges scribed to follow your walls
- A spray or hand-painted finish
Take a look at our comparison of bespoke and off-the-shelf or what to look for in a quote.
Could you do it yourself?
Standard units come in set widths and heights, so there’s typically a gap left over at the top or at one end. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can run to the ceiling and fill the width.
The real difference is in the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.
Do you need fitted wardrobes in South Harrow?
Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces and keeps everything out of sight.
Common reasons to get in touch include:
- Space under the eaves going to waste
- Storage boxes stacked under the bed
- Wardrobes that are full to bursting
- Gaps above and around standalone wardrobes
For a flat near Northolt Park station, fitted wardrobes are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room.
Before you choose who makes it
- Is it spray painted or hand painted?
- Where they’ll park and unload
- Will they visit to measure before quoting?
- How they deal with uneven walls and floors
From workshop to your room
At the end, we tidy up and take up the floor coverings. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.
- It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it is on and the wardrobes you want.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design, and we measure the stairs, landings and doorways too.
- You receive a written quote for the wardrobes.
- The wardrobes are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
- We carry the sections up, join them in the room and scribe them to the walls and ceiling.
Preparing the room
- Clear the area where the furniture is going
- Check the building’s rules for trades and lift bookings
- Take down pictures, mirrors and shelves from the wall
Ask for a quote
Getting a quote starts with some details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and talk through the design, then send a written quote.
