TV and media units for your home in Headstone
TV and media units for homes in Headstone
TV units are made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. You choose a spray-painted or hand-painted finish, in a colour agreed with you. We fit across Harrow and the rest of London, after a design visit and a quote in writing. People usually come to us about boxes with no ventilation and cables trailing across the wall, and the answer is made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.
In an area like Headstone, where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, many living rooms have been opened up to the dining room behind. That leaves a long room with a chimney breast on one side, which suits TV and media units along that wall. At the design visit we plan any cable routes and ventilation the room needs.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

Looking after your furniture
Most of what helps is simple. Here’s what we suggest:
- Count your equipment, including routers and consoles
- Talk to your electrician early about sockets
- Think about the viewing height from your sofa
- Note which boxes need line of sight for their remotes
A soft, slightly damp cloth is all painted surfaces need. Avoid abrasive pads and strong sprays.
Don’t stack boxes on top of each other in one space, as they trap each other’s heat. Give each its own space.

Birch plywood
Birch plywood is strong and holds screws well, so it is good for shelves that carry equipment and speakers.
Shelves
Long shelves need the right thickness or a support so they stay straight.
Where other trades come in
Some parts of a job need another trade, from an electrician to a plumber or an engineer on the Gas Safe Register. Here is what to bear in mind:
- Installing aerials, satellite dishes or broadband
- Setting up and tuning the TV, boxes and speakers
- Structural changes to the wall
If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can tell us about the room on our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer. How it works.

How fitting day works
Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there is usually only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Semis and detached houses often have a front path or a side gate, which can make carrying in easier. We measure the path, any steps and the front door as part of the route. Floors, stairs and doorways are protected on the way in, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You get in touch about a built-in TV unit, and where the sockets are now.
- We visit to measure, note the sockets and agree where everything will go. Any new sockets are a job for your electrician.
- We send a written quote with the design, materials and finish, for you to look over.
- We build the unit in our workshop, with routes and ventilation planned in.
- We fit it in your home, scribed to the walls and ready for your equipment. A hand-painted finish is done on site, if you chose one.
Before we arrive
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
- If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
Getting a quote
A quote begins with a few details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. When you are ready, send us a few details through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.

Questions from Headstone
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Headstone Lane station?
Yes, homes across Harrow and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with some details about the room.
Will parking be an issue for fitting furniture in Headstone?
It depends on the street, as many London boroughs run controlled parking zones. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, and we’ll plan around it.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you.
Will the cables be hidden?
We design the unit so cables run out of sight. Access panels make future changes easy. For a wall-mounted TV, a route behind the screen is planned in.
How do you get the furniture up the stairs?
Getting it in is planned during the design visit. The stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways are measured, and the furniture is made in sections sized to get through.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Just mention it when you get in touch.
TV and media units in Headstone: local notes
About 45% of the homes in the streets around Headstone went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 26% between 1945 and 1972, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Headstone is partly covered by a conservation area, going by Historic England’s data. Planning controls in conservation areas are mainly concerned with the outside of buildings, so fitting furniture inside a house does not normally need permission. If you want to be certain, ask the council’s planning team. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home is on or just off a main road, it’s useful to mention it. Then we can work out where to load and unload.
Headstone Manor, about 0.6 miles south-east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. For a period home anywhere nearby, picture rails and cornices give TV and media units a line to finish at. For a family home near Pinner Park Primary School, a cupboard for board games and a shelf for reading books can go into the same design. If you live in a flat close to Headstone Lane station, the lift, the stair turns and the front door all set the largest piece that can come in.

A little further out are Kodak Museum (1 mile south-east) and St. George's Shopping Centre (1.7 miles south-east).
Is bespoke worth it?
Some closed off-the-shelf cabinets have little ventilation. We plan ventilation for boxes, consoles and amplifiers. Even in a 1930s house, walls and floors are not perfectly true, and standalone units can lean or gap. Built-in pieces are adjusted to the room on site.
The inside of the furniture affects the price as well: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers all add work. We will talk through what you need inside at the design visit.
