Fitted wardrobes in Little Stanmore: what you get
Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, from the floor to the ceiling and from wall to wall. There’s no dusty gap on top and no awkward space at the ends. If you’re planning fitted wardrobes in Little Stanmore, the first step is a design visit to measure up and go through the design. People usually come to us about clothes piled on chairs and in spare rooms and wardrobes that are full to bursting, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
Many 1930s houses have had a loft conversion, adding a bedroom under a sloping ceiling, and the slope can take storage cut to its angle. Around Little Stanmore, interwar houses, semis and detached homes make up a large part of the housing. Our part starts once the loft has been converted, and the furniture is scribed to the slope and the walls.
Everything we agree during the design visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it is easier before the furniture is made.

Common questions about fitted wardrobes
Do you cover homes near Mill Hill Broadway station?
Yes. We cover all of Harrow and the rest of London. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with a few details about the room, and let us know about parking and access at the same time.
Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?
Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.
Hinged or sliding doors: which suits my bedroom?
That depends on how much space there is in front of the wardrobe. Where a bed sits close by, sliding doors often work better, while hinged doors suit rooms with space to open them. We look at it with you when we measure.
Is it OK to put a wardrobe on an outside wall?
Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for airflow behind and inside the wardrobe to help avoid condensation and mould.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. We are carpenters, so electrical work is for your electrician. We can allow for cable routes in the design, and new sockets should be in place before fitting day.
Can fitted wardrobes follow a sloping ceiling?
Yes. Many loft rooms have sloping ceilings, and fitted wardrobes are one of the best ways to use them. The slope is measured at the design visit and the wardrobe scribed to it on site.
What affects the price in Little Stanmore
Several things affect the price:
- Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
- Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
- How square the room is
- The number of doors and drawers
How it is painted is part of the price: spray painting happens in the workshop, and hand painting can be done in your home. The written quote reflects your choice, along with the size and fittings.
Helping us understand the room
To help us picture the room, please include:
- Rough measurements, even if they’re only to the nearest few centimetres
- How you want to use the space
- The postcode, so we can plan the visit
- Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
If you already have something in mind, tell us; if not, we can work it out together at the visit. The design is talked through at the visit, once we’ve measured, and the written quote that follows sets it out. To start, use our contact form.
What fitted wardrobes can’t fix
We design, make and fit the furniture. In practice, that means:
- Moving switches or sockets, which needs an electrician
- Curing damp, which needs the right specialist
- The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
Not sure whether your space suits fitted wardrobes? You can get in touch through our contact form and we’ll tell you before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.

Is bespoke worth it?
With off-the-shelf wardrobes, the colour choice is the maker’s. We paint fitted wardrobes in the colour you choose. Bespoke work does take longer than buying from a shop, since there’s a design visit, a quote and workshop time first. Doors, windows and radiators rarely leave a gap that matches a standard width, so ready-made furniture often ends up in the wrong place. Fitted furniture is designed around them.
Tricky rooms take more time: uneven walls, sloping floors and angled ceilings all add scribing and cutting on site. The quote allows for it, which we write after seeing the room.
Why choose us
- We visit, measure and go through the design before we quote
- Made in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
- Built in our workshop and fitted in your home
- Scribed to uneven walls

Bedroom storage in Little Stanmore
In the area around Little Stanmore, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 66%) and the years since 2000 (about 15%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. Within a mile of the centre of Little Stanmore, 3 conservation areas are recorded by Historic England. England has around 10,000 in all, and their controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Red routes, run by TfL, have strict rules on stopping and loading. If your home in Little Stanmore is on or near a main road, tell us at the measuring visit. We can then plan where the van will stop.
For a family home near Krishna Avanti Primary School, hanging rails set low at first can be raised later, as children get taller. For an older house near Church of St Lawrence, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. If your home is as old as some of the listed buildings nearby, such as Church of St Lawrence, original features like shutters, panelling and fireplaces are worth designing around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

How fitting works for fitted wardrobes
Getting everything level comes first. Where the floor slopes, we bring the furniture up to level on adjustable feet or a plinth, and that keeps the doors and shelves true. Only then is it fixed to the wall, with fixings chosen to suit brick, lath and plaster or plasterboard. A front path or side gate can make the carry from the van simpler. Gates, paths and steps up to the door are part of the route we measure. Floors are covered from the door to the room, and the sections are assembled in place.
- You get in touch and tell us about the bedroom, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
- We visit to measure the room and discuss the design. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
- Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out, so you can see what’s included.
- Each section is built in our workshop to the room’s measurements, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
- The wardrobes are fitted in your home, set level and scribed to the walls and ceiling. A hand-painted finish, if you chose one, is done on site.
Before we arrive
- Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
- Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are

What else we make in Little Stanmore
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Cost matters, and it’s fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture normally costs less up front. Bespoke earns its place where the room is awkward, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
If you are handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. Sloping ceilings, uneven floors and lath-and-plaster walls make it harder, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.
