Pricing fitted wardrobes in Maypole

Prices vary from room to room, for these reasons:

  • The finish: spray painted or hand painted
  • The width and height of the space
  • Parking and unloading on your street
  • How square the room is

Getting to the room affects the job as well. Narrow halls, tight stairs or a small lift may mean the furniture is made in more sections. Prices are quoted for your room, once we’ve measured and talked through the design.

What to send when you get in touch

Ahead of the design visit, we’ll usually ask about:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What the furniture needs to hold
  • The postcode, so we can plan the visit
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, tell us about the room on our contact form. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and go through the design, then send a written quote.

Fitted wardrobes in Maypole: what you get

Loft conversions, common in London terraces, often leave sloping ceilings. We can shape a wardrobe to follow the ceiling line, keeping long hanging where there’s height and drawers or shelves lower down. It turns an awkward corner into storage. We make fitted wardrobes from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted, and the things people most often want solved are empty alcoves in the bedroom and space under the eaves going to waste.

Around Maypole, with interwar houses or semis making up much of the housing, the spare room may be the small one at the front, over the hall and stairs. That’s where fitted wardrobes earn their place, making a small room work as a dressing room, a guest room or both. Every wall is measured and checked, even in a house that looks square.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If you’d like to change anything, it’s easier before the furniture is made.

Looking after your furniture

Fitted furniture is part of the room, so it’s worth looking after. Here are a few tips worth knowing:

  • Count how much long hanging and short hanging you need
  • Think about where you’ll keep shoes, bags and folded clothes
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Empty the area where we’ll be working

Painted doors feel dry quickly but take longer to cure fully. For the first while, open and close the doors gently and avoid knocking hangers against the inside.

Keep any ventilation gaps clear, particularly on an external wall. Look out for a musty smell or spots on clothes and have the cause looked at early.

Fitting day, step by step

Finishing comes last. With a spray finish from the workshop, there’s normally only filling and touching up to do in the room; if you chose hand painting, that can be done in the room once the furniture is fitted. Either way, the finish is the one set out in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so it is worth mentioning during the design visit. Otherwise, a visitor permit or a nearby bay helps. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. It starts when you tell us about the room, the floor it’s on and the wardrobes you want.
  2. At the design visit we plan the wardrobes with you and check the route in, including any lift or tight stair turn.
  3. A quote in writing follows with the design, materials and finish.
  4. The wardrobes are built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections sized for the route we measured.
  5. Fitting day: the sections come in, are joined and set level, and the doors are hung.

Preparing the room

  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area
  • If you live in a block, book the lift and tell the building manager
  • Tell us about parking near your home

Getting a quote

We quote each job for the room it’s going into, after the design visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. For a quote, send us a few details through our contact form.

Advice

Fitted wardrobes in Maypole: local notes

The biggest shares of homes in the neighbourhood around Maypole were built between 1945 and 1972 (about 59%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 18%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). Each era brings its own kind of wall, ceiling height and floor, so it shapes the design from the first measurement. Near the centre of Maypole, Historic England’s list includes Maypole Cottages (Grade II), under half a mile south-west, and Rock Cottage (Grade II), under half a mile east. If you live in a listed building, fixing into or taking out original features like panelling can require listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. The ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone) now covers the whole of London, Bromley included. That includes the vans that bring and fit furniture in Maypole. We go through parking and access during the design visit.

Close to Hewitt's Chalk Bank? Fitted wardrobes are typically planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay. If your home is one of the older houses near Mission Chapel, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice. The wider area includes historic houses such as Lullingstone Castle, about 2.4 miles east. If your own home is a period one, tall ceilings give fitted wardrobes room to reach the cornice.

Is bespoke worth it?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, so there is usually a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling. In an extended or opened-up house, old and new walls often meet slightly out of line, which shows up against standard furniture. Fitted pieces are scribed to both.

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because the size, the layout and the finish all vary. Spray painting and hand painting are different processes, which affects the cost. You will see the figure in your written quote, after the design visit.

What fitted wardrobes cannot fix

We are carpenters, so some jobs belong to other trades. These are worth knowing before you plan:

  • The loft conversion itself, which is building work under Building Regulations
  • Fixing the cause of condensation or damp
  • Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster

If in doubt, you can message us from the contact page and describe the room before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

What it is made from

  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Birch plywood
  • Moisture-resistant MDF
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hand-painted finish

Questions from Maypole

Do you cover homes near Knockholt station?

Yes. We cover all of Bromley and the rest of London. To get started, you can fill in our short enquiry form with a few details about the room.

Will a conservation area stop me having fitted wardrobes fitted in Maypole?

Usually not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

What happens at the measuring visit?

We take full measurements, look at the walls and floors and work through the design together. Access and parking are worth talking about too, and a quote in writing follows.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

The time the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. We will explain what fitting day involves before we start.

Can a fitted wardrobe go against a cold wall?

Yes, with ventilation planned in. External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we plan airflow behind and within it.

What if my bedroom floor is not level?

Floors in older houses are often out of level. The wardrobes are levelled on adjustable feet or a plinth.
