Rail heights are set for the clothes they hold. Long coats and dresses need one tall section, while two rails, one over the other, suit shirts and jackets. We also think about who uses it, so the top rail is within comfortable reach. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish, and the usual reasons to get in touch are an awkward slope in a loft bedroom and gaps above and around standalone wardrobes.

Fitted furniture in a bedroom has to work with how you use the room. In Wallington, as anywhere in London, we start by asking what the room is for. The layout, the doors and the inside follow from that. You choose the colour, spray-painted or hand-painted.

Everything we agree at the measuring visit goes into the written quote: the layout, what goes inside, the materials used and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Made for the room, or bought in a box?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes come in standard heights and widths, so there’s usually a gap on top and at the ends. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling, so the space is used and there’s nowhere for dust to collect on top. Recesses, sloping ceilings and tricky corners are where ready-made furniture struggles most, and most homes have one somewhere. Built-in pieces are made to fit them.

There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in Wallington

Others simply want the room to feel calmer. A run of painted doors from wall to wall looks quieter than several separate pieces and keeps everything out of sight.

People usually get in touch with us about needs like these:

  • Not enough hanging space
  • Wasted space beside the chimney breast
  • A room too narrow for hinged doors
  • A sloping ceiling that is hard to use

If you live near Carshalton Park, fitted wardrobes are usually planned on the walls away from the window, so the light and the view stay.

Fitted wardrobes for homes in Wallington

In the streets around Wallington, the largest groups of homes date from before 1919 (about 30%) and between 1919 and 1939 (about 29%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Knowing roughly when a home was built helps, because walls and fixings change from one era to the next. The National Heritage List has 31 entries within half a mile of the centre of Wallington. Older homes nearby may have original joinery, shutters or panelling worth keeping, and fitted wardrobes can be designed to work around them. TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules. If your home is on or just off a main road, it is useful to mention it. That way we can plan where to load and unload.

If your children go to Holy Trinity CofE Junior School or a school nearby, fitted wardrobes in a child’s room can be planned so the inside layout changes as they grow. Near listed buildings like Church of All Saints, about 0.5 miles west of the centre of Wallington, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can require listed building consent.

Wallington is about 2 miles west of Sutton, in the London Borough of Sutton. Wherever you are in Wallington, the process is the same: we visit and measure, send a written quote, make the furniture in our workshop and fit it. Wallington is one of 17 places on our list for Sutton.

Questions we’re often asked

Is Wallington in the area you cover for fitted wardrobes?

Yes. We cover all of Sutton and the rest of London, and Wallington is part of that. We start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need, followed by a quote.

I live near Wallington station. Is that in your area?

Yes, homes across Sutton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can message us from the contact page to arrange a design visit.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, by prior arrangement. Tell us when you get in touch if a Saturday suits you best.

Which is better for fitted wardrobes, hinged or sliding doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing; sliding doors suit narrow rooms, though only part of the inside is open at once. We’ll help you weigh them up when we visit.

Do I need to be in when you fit?

We need access, so someone has to let us in. You don’t need to watch us work.

How is the price worked out?

Size, doors and drawers, what goes inside and the finish all affect it, along with access and parking. The price comes in a quote in writing after the design visit.

What we do not do

Not everything around fitted wardrobes is carpentry, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Converting a loft (we build storage in lofts that are already converted)
  • Removing walls, chimney breasts or any structural work
  • Decorating or plastering the room

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How it works.

Boards, parts and finishes

  • Hand-painted finish
  • Birch plywood
  • Hanging rails, shelves and drawers
  • Spray-painted finish
  • Hinged or sliding doors
  • Moisture-resistant MDF

Flats, conversions and lettings

Some blocks ask for notice before trades arrive, often through a building manager or concierge. Lifts sometimes need to be booked, and the lift size helps decide how big each section can be. Mention it when you contact us.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways along with the room itself, so the furniture can be made in sections that fit through.

From workshop to your room

Fitting day follows a set order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the wardrobes and the number of doors, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. It’s useful to clear the room and the route in before fitting day, including anything on the walls near the work. We cover floors and doorways first. Then the sections come in and are joined in place.

  1. You contact us with a short note about the room and the wardrobes you have in mind, including any slopes, windows or alcoves.
  2. At the design visit, we measure up and plan the doors and the inside with you. We also look at the way in, in case the sections need to go up narrow stairs.
  3. Your quote follows, with the layout, materials and finish set out.
  4. The wardrobes are made in our workshop, sized to get through your doors and up the stairs.
  5. We fit them in your home, levelled and scribed to the walls.

How to prepare

  • Move anything in the hall or on the stairs out of the way
  • Tell us about parking near your home
  • Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day

Ask for a quote

The quote is built from the design visit. We measure the room properly, check how the walls and floors run and talk through the design with you. A quote in writing follows the visit. To book one, send us a few details through our contact form.
