Your questions about fitted wardrobes in Beddington

Does a conservation area in or near Beddington affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house doesn’t normally need planning permission. If your home is listed, works inside that affect its character may need listed building consent, so check with the council first. If you are unsure, the council can confirm.

I live near Waddon station. Is that in your area?

Yes. We cover all of Sutton and the rest of London. To get started, you can get in touch through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Can you add sockets inside the units?

No. Any new wiring, sockets or lights need an electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.

What can go inside a fitted wardrobe?

We plan it with you at the design visit, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.

How long does it take to fit wardrobes?

The fitting depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and the fitting days are set out in your quote. The making happens in our workshop.

How do I get a quote for fitted wardrobes in Beddington?

Just use our contact form. Rough sizes and a few photos help, and we’ll arrange a design visit.

How we make fitted wardrobes for Beddington

In older bedrooms, the chimney breast alcoves are often the obvious place for clothes. A pair of alcove wardrobes keeps the chimney breast as a feature. We meet the picture rail and cornice neatly, or cut around them. Most enquiries start with wardrobes that are full to bursting and dusty space on top of the wardrobe, and the answer is built in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand.

In an area where interwar homes or semis make up much of the housing, as around Beddington, bedrooms are often simple shapes, sometimes with a chimney breast or a bay. That makes a full wall of fitted furniture simple to plan, laid out around what you store. If the loft has been converted, sloping ceilings bring their own options.

The written quote puts the design visit in writing: the layout and internal fittings, the materials and the finish. If something isn’t quite right, tell us before anything is made.

Plinths and scribe strips

The plinth lifts the wardrobe and hides an uneven floor. Its height can be set to match the skirting.

Hanging rails

We place rails at the heights your clothes need: a high rail for long items and double rails for shorter ones.

Fitted bedroom furniture in Beddington

In the streets around Beddington, the largest groups of homes date from between 1919 and 1939 (about 52%) and between 1973 and 1999 (about 22%), based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. That matters for fitted wardrobes, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Beddington include Beddington Place (great Hall Only) (Grade I), less than half a mile west, and Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin (Grade II*), under half a mile west. If your own home is listed, changes inside that alter its character, like fixing into or removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Check with the council’s conservation officer first. About 52% of homes in the neighbourhood around Beddington date from between 1919 and 1939, on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. Many interwar houses have a small room over the stairs, which suits fitted storage made around its bulkhead.

For a flat near Waddon station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is one of the older houses near Parish Church of St Mary the Virgin, a bedroom chimney breast and its alcoves often shape where fitted wardrobes go. If you live near Waddon Ponds, morning light matters, so tall pieces go where they won’t shade the window.

Beddington is about 3 miles west of Sutton, in the London Borough of Sutton. Whether your home in Beddington is a terraced house, a flat or a newer build, we measure the room as it is and design around it. Our work takes in places right across Sutton.

Bespoke or off-the-shelf?

Bought wardrobes are made in set sizes, which leaves gaps above and beside them. A fitted wardrobe fills the space wall to wall and up to the ceiling. Standard widths rarely add up to the length of a real wall, which fitted furniture avoids. It can also go up to the ceiling rather than stopping short.

Parking is part of the price picture in London. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so we may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a suspended bay near your home. Tell us about parking at the design visit.

Could you do it yourself?

The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. In an older room, standard units rarely manage that.

If you’re handy, a simple shelf or a standard wardrobe in a square room is a reasonable DIY job. It gets harder with sloping ceilings, out-of-level floors and lath-and-plaster walls, because scribing and the right fixings start to matter.

Honest limits

We don’t treat damp or carry out building work, so these points are worth knowing:

  • Any wiring or new sockets (your electrician handles those)
  • Taking out a chimney breast to make space
  • Curing damp, which needs the right specialist

If you’re not sure what’s possible in your room, you can message us from the contact page and we will give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. How a job runs, step by step.

From workshop to your room

When the fitting is done, we tidy the room. Before we go, we look over the finished furniture with you and explain how to look after the paint. How long fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Some interwar and suburban streets have driveways, which can make unloading easier, so let us know at the measuring visit. Otherwise, details of permits or nearby bays help. Doorways, stairs and floors are covered on the way in.

  1. You let us know about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers.
  3. A written quote follows. It lists what’s inside each wardrobe as well as the doors.
  4. Once you are happy, the wardrobes are made in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place. We adjust the doors so they hang and close evenly.

Before we arrive

  • Clear the hallway and stairs so the sections can come through
  • Clear the area where the furniture is going
  • Tell us about parking near your home
