Loft storage in Wallington

Making use of tricky spaces in Wallington

About 30% of the homes in the streets around Wallington went up before 1919, and about 29% between 1919 and 1939, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. Entries on the National Heritage List near the centre of Wallington include Church of All Saints (Grade II*), about 0.5 miles west, and Church of the Holy Trinity (Grade II), less than half a mile west. Listing covers the inside of a building as well as the outside, so works that affect a listed home’s character, like removing original joinery, can need listed building consent. Ask the council’s conservation officer before anything is fixed. Parking controls in London are set borough by borough, so Sutton has its own. Where a street in Wallington is controlled, a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension from the council. We ask about parking at the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.

For a family home near Holy Trinity CofE Junior School, deep drawers suit the bulky things families collect, from scooters to swimming kit. If you live in a flat close to Wallington station, eaves cupboards are made in sections sized for the stairs, landings and lift, so measuring the route matters as much as measuring the room. For an older house near Church of the Holy Trinity, a dormer in a converted loft can hold shelves or a small desk.

Wallington is about 2 miles west of Sutton, part of the London Borough of Sutton. We design and make loft storage for homes in Wallington, as part of our work in every London borough. Wallington is one of 17 places on our list for Sutton.

Every address in SM6 and SM5 is covered for loft storage, from the main roads to the quieter streets. You’ll find streets here such as Wallington Square, London Road and Maldon Road, and we cover homes on all of them for loft storage. Main roads around Wallington include the A237 and B271, and we plan where the van can stop before fitting day. If you’re just outside Wallington, we also cover Bandonhill (1 mile east), Carshalton (1 mile west), Beddington (1 mile north-east), The Wrythe (1 mile north-west) and Roundshaw (1 mile south-east). We also make loft storage in nearby places like Sutton (2 miles west), North Cheam (3 miles west), Benhilton (2 miles west), Sutton Common (2 miles north-west), Rosehill (2 miles north-west) and St Helier (2 miles north-west). Being one of the larger places in Sutton, Wallington is covered for loft storage and everything else we make.

About our loft storage in Wallington

A loft room can hold a great deal of storage, if the low spaces are used well. We design and make eaves cupboards, drawers in the knee walls, wardrobes under the slopes and shelves in dormers, all made for the shape of the room. For a home in Wallington, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. We make eaves cupboards from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and the things people most often want solved are wasted space behind the knee walls and no wardrobe that fits under the slope.

Across London, neighbouring streets can be decades apart in age, and so do the awkward corners, from bays and stairs to halls and eaves. Eaves cupboards are designed for the space you have. Meters, fuse boards and boilers keep the access they need.

Materials are named in the quote: moisture-resistant MDF, birch plywood or both, depending on the design. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

From workshop to your room

Once the main sections are fixed in place, we hang any doors and fit any drawers or lids. We adjust each one so the gaps line up and it closes cleanly. How long the fitting takes depends on how much storage you want in the loft, and your quote sets out the fitting days. Parking varies a lot across London, from permit zones to private bays, so let us know what’s near you during the design visit. If you live in a flat, any lift or building rules are worth checking too.

  1. It starts when you get in touch with some details about the loft, and how you get up to it.
  2. We come to measure the room and the way up to it, and go through the design.
  3. A quote in writing follows, with the design, finish and fitting days set out, for you to look over.
  4. Your storage is made in our workshop and painted to your chosen colour.
  5. We carry it up, fit it and leave it ready to use, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

How to prepare

  • Take anything hanging off the wall we are fitting to
  • Let us know about any meters, fuse boards or boilers in the area

Flats, blocks and rented homes

Conversions and newer flats often have stud walls rather than solid brick. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check during the design visit.

If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf.

FAQs: loft storage in Wallington

Do I need permission for fitted furniture in a conservation area?

Typically not: conservation area rules mainly cover the outside of buildings, and fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can need listed building consent from the council. The council’s planning or conservation team can tell you if in doubt.

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Wallington station?

Yes, homes across Sutton and the rest of London are within the area we cover. To get started, you can send us a few details through our contact form with some details about the room, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.

Will cupboards in the eaves stop air moving?

It shouldn’t, if it is designed properly. The storage is planned around the insulation and ventilation behind the knee wall. If you have concerns about what’s already behind the eaves, it is worth asking whoever converted the loft.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

You can choose between two finishes: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.

Does someone need to be home during the fitting?

Someone needs to be there to let us in. After that, you don’t need to stay in the room.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

Could you do it yourself?

Cost matters, and it is fair to say so: off-the-shelf furniture typically costs less up front. Bespoke makes more sense where the room is awkward, the space is valuable or you want the furniture to look built in.

Bespoke work comes into its own in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.

How we price loft storage

What you pay depends on:

  • Stairs, lifts and the route to the room
  • What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
  • How square the room is
  • How many doors and drawers there are

We do not publish set prices, because every piece is designed for one room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To arrange a design visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Before the design visit

A little information at the start saves time later. If you can, send:

  • Radiators, sockets, pipes or meters on or near the wall
  • Examples of the look you are after
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on

It’s useful to see the room before we come. Pictures of the whole wall, the corners and the ceiling line tell us a lot about the space, along with rough measurements. To share them, fill in our short enquiry form, and we will arrange a design visit.

Where other trades come in

Before you plan the job, it is useful to know what we do not do:

  • Anything that needs Building Regulations sign-off
  • Electrical work in the loft
  • Structural changes, such as cutting into rafters or joists

If you are not sure what’s possible in your room, you can send us a few details through our contact form and we’ll give you a straight answer before you arrange a visit. Our process from visit to fitting.
