Pinner Fitted Home Offices

We make fitted home offices in moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood for homes in Pinner. Each piece is finished by spray or by hand, in the colour you choose.

  • A guest room that’s needed for work
  • Wanting to close the door on work at the end of the day
  • An awkward space with no furniture that fits

Need fitted home offices in Pinner?

Flat-pack or bespoke?

Off-the-shelf cupboards come in fixed sizes, so there’s often a strip of wasted space at the side or above. Furniture we make is built to the room’s own sizes, so it can use the full height and width.

What you pay for with bespoke is mainly the fit: edges scribed to the wall, a level base on a sloping floor and a neat line where the furniture meets the ceiling. Off-the-shelf furniture can’t usually do that in an older room.

About our fitted home offices in Pinner

Not every home has a spare room, but a wide landing or a loft room can work. Under a slope, the desk is placed where there is headroom to sit and stand. On a landing, the furniture must leave a clear way past. We measure and plan for the space you have in Pinner. Typical reasons to get in touch are no proper place to work from home and a screen that’s hard to read by the window; the furniture is made from birch plywood and moisture-resistant MDF with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

With interwar houses or semis a big part of the picture around Pinner, a converted loft can be a quiet place to work, with storage tucked under the slope. We build in lofts that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, an alcove beside a chimney breast or a bay can take a desk.

A quote in writing follows the design visit. It describes the design we discussed, the materials and the finish.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

Every fitting follows the same order: we protect the floors, bring the sections in, set them level, scribe them to the walls, fix them and finish them. At the end, we tidy up and go over the work with you. How long fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. In a 1920s or 1930s house, the hall and stairs are typically straightforward, though we still measure the route in not just the room. The furniture comes in sections and is put together where it is going.

  1. It starts with a short note from you about the space.
  2. At the design visit we plan the office and measure the route in: stairs, landings, any lift and the doorways.
  3. A written quote follows, covering the design, materials and finish.
  4. The desk and shelving are made at our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, in sections that fit the route.
  5. We carry the sections in, assemble them in the room and fit them, with a spray-painted or hand-painted finish.

How to prepare

  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
  • Make sure pets are kept safely away
  • Let us know about parking near your home

How to get a quote

Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough measurements and a couple of pictures if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. After that, we arrange a visit to measure and discuss the design, then send a written quote.

Questions from Pinner

Does a conservation area in or near Pinner affect fitted furniture?

Not normally. Conservation area controls are largely about how buildings look from outside, so fitted furniture inside a house does not normally need planning permission. Listed buildings are different, as works inside that affect their character can require listed building consent from the council. If you’re unsure, the council can confirm.

Is Pinner in the area you cover for fitted home offices?

Yes, we work across Harrow, Pinner included, and across the rest of London. You can fill in our short enquiry form to arrange a design visit.

How long does it take to fit a home office?

How long the fitting takes depends on the size of the room and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. Every part is made at our workshop before we arrive. If you’d like the fitting on a Saturday, that can be arranged.

What if my walls and floors are out of level?

That is normal in older homes, and it’s what scribing is for. Edges are scribed to the wall, and adjustable feet or a plinth bring the furniture up to level.

Is an alcove big enough for a desk?

It depends on the width and depth of the alcove. Many are wide enough for a compact desk, with shelving above and drawers below. We’ll tell you honestly when we visit.

Do photos help?

Yes, they help. Pictures of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling, give us a good idea of the space, especially with rough sizes. To send them, use our contact form.

Practical tips

People planning fitted home offices often ask about these. They’re worth knowing before and after fitting:

  • Consider your chair when planning the desk
  • Let us know about parking near your home
  • Check whether you will need new sockets
  • Note what sits on and around your desk

A soft, damp cloth is the best way to keep the furniture clean. Avoid scourers and harsh cleaners. The desk edge is touched most, so give it a wipe now and then.

Keep the chair from knocking the desk edge. Pushing it in gently helps. Small chips on a hand-painted finish are easy to touch in.

Do you need fitted home offices in Pinner?

An alcove, a landing or a space under the eaves can often take a desk. Off-the-shelf desks rarely fit these spaces. A built-in desk makes the space useful.

A few of the things people ask us to solve are these:

  • A desk in the wrong light
  • A tangle of chargers and leads
  • A corner too odd for a standard desk
  • A laptop that moves from room to room

If your home is one of the older houses near Christian Science Church, a small back bedroom can become a home office with a desk under the window.

What fitted home offices can’t fix

Electrics, plumbing, gas, plastering and structural work are not part of what we do. Please bear these in mind too:

  • Any wiring or new lights, which need an electrician
  • Painting the walls and ceiling
  • Converting a loft to make room for an office

Home working in Pinner: local notes

About 43% of the homes in the neighbourhood around Pinner went up between 1919 and 1939, and about 28% between 1945 and 1972, according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). That matters for home offices, as the build era decides whether a wall is solid brick, lath and plaster, block or plasterboard. Pinner is partly covered by a conservation area, according to Historic England’s records. The controls in a conservation area are mostly about the outside of buildings, so furniture fitted inside a house does not normally need planning permission. If in doubt, the council’s planning team can confirm. Detached and semi-detached houses are home to about 61% of households in the area around Pinner, going by Census 2021 figures from the ONS. In a semi or detached house, a driveway, where there is one, can make unloading easier.

If you live near Eastcote House Gardens, a desk facing a window makes the most of the daylight. Headstone Manor, about 1.5 miles east, is one of the historic houses in the wider area. If your own home is a period one, an alcove beside the chimney breast is often just right for a built-in desk.
