Common questions about fitted home offices

Can you fit furniture in a home close to Barking Riverside station?

Yes, homes across Barking and Dagenham and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can use our contact form to arrange a design visit.

I live in a flat in Creekmouth. How will the furniture get up the stairs?

We measure the route in along with the room itself: the stairs, landings, lift and doors. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It is useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.

Do I choose the paint colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

What if the wall is cold or damp?

External walls can be colder and damper than internal ones, so we allow for ventilation behind and inside the furniture, which helps avoid condensation and mould. Any damp needs sorting by the right specialist before fitting.

Should I send pictures?

Yes, they help. A few pictures of the room, from floor to ceiling, tell us a lot, especially with rough measurements. To send them, fill in our short enquiry form.

Can you come on a Saturday?

Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.

How we make fitted home offices for Creekmouth

Working from home is easier when the desk, shelves and storage are built for the job. Our home offices are made for spare rooms, alcoves, landings and loft rooms, shaped by the way you work. For a home in Creekmouth, it starts with a design visit to measure and talk it through. If you are living with an awkward space with no furniture that fits and a spare room that has to be an office and a guest room, that’s what home offices are for, made from MDF made to resist moisture and birch plywood, then spray-painted or hand-painted.

A large number of homes around Creekmouth date from 2000 onwards, and newer homes often have compact second bedrooms that end up as offices. A desk with shelves and closed storage can share the room with a wall bed or a sofa bed. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so shelves are fixed into the studs or use fixings made for the board.

You get the quote in writing, so you can read it at your own pace. It covers the design, materials and finish agreed at the visit.

Why people ask for fitted home offices in Creekmouth

Many people get in touch because they now work from home, at least part of the week. A kitchen table or a corner of the bedroom soon stops working. A built-in desk and storage make working at home far easier.

Typical reasons people contact us include:

  • Work things on show in the evening
  • A desk in the wrong light
  • A tangle of chargers and leads
  • Paperwork and files with nowhere to go

For an older house near Christ Church, lath-and-plaster walls need the right fixings for shelves above a desk.

Before you choose who makes it

  • Are the boards named, like MDF or plywood?
  • Do they scribe the furniture to the walls?
  • How the furniture will be finished, and where
  • How the doors are hung and adjusted

Our checklist for choosing a carpenter

What it costs

When we put a quote together, we consider:

  • Whether you choose a spray or hand-painted finish
  • The width and height of the space
  • Doors and drawers, and how many
  • Access to the room, such as stairs, lifts and narrow halls

The price comes in a written quote, worked out from the measurements and the design you choose. The price depends mainly on the size of the piece, how many doors and drawers it has and what goes inside.

Getting in touch

Getting some details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:

  • Pictures showing the full wall, from floor to ceiling
  • Rough sizes: width, height and depth
  • Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
  • Any ideas or images you’ve saved

We quote once we have seen the room. We measure the space, check the walls and floors and discuss what you’d like, and the written quote comes after. There’s no price list: each design is priced in writing after we’ve seen the space. To arrange a visit, send us a few details through our contact form.

Near the centre of Creekmouth, Historic England’s list includes Chimney to Beckton Sewage Works (Grade II), under half a mile west. Works inside a listed home that affect its character, for instance removing original joinery or fixing into it, can require listed building consent from the council. Newer homes are more common around Creekmouth than across Barking and Dagenham: about 37% date from 2000 onwards, against about 20%, in the VOA’s 2025 council tax stock figures. Newer homes often have stud walls and compact rooms, so fixings and sizes are planned with that in mind.

Flats, blocks and rented homes

In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall.

In a flat, the route in matters as much as the room. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doorways not just the room, so each section is sized to get through without a struggle.

Honest limits

Some parts of a job need another trade, such as an electrician, a plumber or a Gas Safe registered engineer. Here’s what to know:

  • Electrical work for the office, which your electrician carries out
  • Changes to the structure of the house
  • Painting the walls and ceiling

Not sure whether your space suits fitted home offices? You can message us from the contact page and we will tell you. How it works.

How fitting works for fitted home offices

With the carcasses fixed and level, any doors go on and any drawers or lids are fitted. Each one is adjusted until the gaps are even and it closes cleanly, and then we check it all again. The time the fitting takes depends on how much desk, shelving and storage you want, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Walls in newer homes are often plasterboard on studs, so on fitting day heavy pieces go into the studs or stand on the floor. Floors are protected throughout, as many newer homes have finished floors that mark easily, and dust is kept to a minimum.

  1. You get in touch and tell us about the work you do and the equipment you use.
  2. At the design visit we measure the room, agree the desk height and depth and plan cable routes to the sockets. New sockets or wiring are a job for your electrician, ideally before fitting.
  3. You receive a written quote for the office.
  4. We make the desk and storage in our workshop from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, with cable holes and routes built in.
  5. We fit it in your home, scribed and set level, with the finish sprayed beforehand or painted by hand on site.

Getting ready for fitting day

  • Empty the space we’ll be working in
  • Point out meters, boilers and fuse boards near the furniture
  • Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
