About our window seats in Creekmouth
Cushions are not something we supply, so we agree the seat size with you and you can have one made to fit. You can then choose the fabric and style yourself. We plan the depth and height so the seat is comfortable with a cushion on it. Most enquiries start with no space for toys and games and no comfortable place to sit in the light; the furniture is made from moisture-resistant MDF and strong birch plywood, with a painted finish.
A large share of the homes around Creekmouth date from 2000 onwards, and newer houses that have had the loft converted often have sloping ceilings and eaves to use. For lofts, the storage goes into spaces that are already converted or boarded. Elsewhere, fitted storage is fixed to plasterboard walls with fixings that suit it.
The quote names the materials: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, each used where it suits the job. The finish is stated too, whether that’s spray painting or hand painting.

How it is made
Spray-painted finish
Spray painting suits panels, grilles and plain fronts alike. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.
Birch plywood
We use birch plywood where strength matters. The seat and its frame are made from it, as they carry weight daily. Its layered edge can be shown or painted.
When is bespoke worth it?
Where bespoke earns its keep is in rooms that are not square. In period homes, walls lean, floors slope and the alcoves on each side are often different widths, which leaves standard units with gaps at the sides and top.
The real difference is in the fit: scribed edges, a level base on an uneven floor and furniture that meets the ceiling, skirting and picture rail. Off-the-shelf furniture cannot normally do that in an older room.
Flats, conversions and leaseholders
Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too. The materials are the same as for any home: moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
In conversions and newer blocks, many internal walls are timber or metal stud with plasterboard. We choose fixings to suit the wall, which we check at the design visit.
Bespoke window seats or ready-made?
Standard storage benches come in set sizes. Bespoke seats are made to the size of the space, so nothing is wasted, with drawers, a lift-up lid or a mix below. Big standalone units can dominate a compact room, whereas fitted pieces painted to suit the walls sit back into the space.
We do not publish set prices, because each job is designed for a single room. We measure up, discuss the design and send a quote in writing. To arrange a design visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Questions from Creekmouth
Can parking be tricky on fitting day in Creekmouth?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. Depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed, and suspensions often need notice. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit, so the day can be planned around it.
How do you fit window seats in a flat in Creekmouth?
At the design visit, we measure the way in along with the room itself. The furniture is made in sections that fit the stairs and lift, and put together in the room. It’s useful to check any building rules and your lease before fitting day.
Which materials go into your window seats?
The seat is made from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood. The frame and seat top are birch plywood, which is strong and holds screws well, while the fronts and grilles are MDF, which paints well. Everything is finished by spray painting or hand painting.
What finishes do you offer?
There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. A spray finish is smooth and even, while a hand-painted one is easy to touch up later.
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Electrical work is not something we do; it is a job for your electrician. We can plan cable routes into the design.
Can the fitting be on a Saturday?
Yes, we can arrange Saturdays. Let us know when you first get in touch, and we’ll see what we can do.
How fitting works for window seats
Period rooms often have skirting boards, picture rails, cornices or coving for the furniture to meet. On fitting day, we cut and scribe the furniture around these details. The time the fitting takes depends on the size of the window and the design, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote. On the day, floors are covered first and the sections brought in. Each piece is levelled and fixed to suit plasterboard or block. Any hand painting can be finished on site.
- It starts when you contact us about a window seat.
- At the design visit, we look at the window, the radiator and what you need.
- A quote in writing follows, with the fitting days agreed. Read it through and ask if anything is unclear.
- Your window seat is built in our workshop, shaped to the window, from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We fit it in your home and leave it ready to use, with the lids or drawers checked with you.
Before we arrive
- Book any lift and let the concierge or building manager know
- Clear the walls of pictures and shelves
- Leave a clear route from the front door to the room
How to get a quote
A quote begins with some details from you: the room, rough sizes and some photos if you have them. To send them, send us a few details through our contact form. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a written quote.
