Fitted wardrobes across E6: what to expect
Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, from the floor to the ceiling and from wall to wall where the space allows. There is no dusty gap on top and no awkward space at the ends. If you are planning fitted wardrobes in E6, we start with a design visit to measure the room and talk through what you need. We make fitted wardrobes from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, finished by spray or by hand, and people most often get in touch about several odd pieces where one run of storage would do and musty smells in a wardrobe on a cold wall.
There is not much for you to do on fitting day. Someone needs to let us in, and it helps to have the room cleared beforehand. After that, it’s over to us: the floors are covered, the sections come in and the fitting begins. The time the fitting takes depends on how many wardrobes there are and how the room is shaped, and we confirm the fitting days in your quote.
- You get in touch about fitted wardrobes for your bedroom.
- We visit to measure up and plan the doors, rails, shelves and drawers with you.
- You receive a quote setting out the design and the paint finish, ready for you to read through.
- The wardrobes are made in sections in our workshop.
- Fitting day: the wardrobes go in, are levelled and scribed, and the doors are hung.
How our quotes work
Your quote is written for your room once we’ve visited and measured. Bigger pieces use more board and take longer to make and fit. Doors, drawers, internal fittings and the finish make up most of the rest.

Around East Ham
Our area takes in the homes around The Service for Deaf and Partially Hearing Children, Langdon School and St Bartholomew's Church. Also close by are Beckton District Park (1 mile south-west), St Michael's Catholic Primary School (under half a mile north-east) and The Miller's Well pub (within half a mile north). East Ham’s nearest station is Barking station, about 1.3 miles north-east. Nearby you will also find Newham University Hospital (1 mile south-west) and The Who Shop Museum (less than half a mile north).
Bedroom storage across E6
If your bedroom in E6 has a chimney breast, the alcoves either side are natural places for storage. Where there is not one, fitted wardrobes can run along a full wall instead. Either way, each piece is fitted to the walls and floor as they are.
The biggest shares of homes in E6 were built before 1919 (about 35%) and since 2000 (about 25%), on the Valuation Office Agency’s council tax figures for 2025. For carpentry, the era of a house is a useful clue to how square its rooms are and what its walls are made of. About 25% of homes in the E6 postcode district were built since 2000, based on the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax data. Bedrooms in homes built since 2000 tend to be compact, with stud walls, so fitted pieces use the full height and are fixed into the studs. Terraced houses are home to about 34% of households in the E6 postcode district, the 2021 Census shows. London terraces typically have a small back bedroom and alcoves in the main bedroom, both good spaces for fitted storage.
The ULEZ has covered every London borough since August 2023, and TfL’s red routes have strict stopping rules, so access to homes in E6 is planned beforehand.
East Ham: For a flat near Barking station, it’s useful to book the lift and tell the concierge before fitting day. If your home is one of the older houses near St Bartholomew's Church, solid external walls can be cold, so ventilation behind fitted wardrobes is part of the design.
When you need someone else
We design, make and fit the furniture. That means:
- Taking out a chimney breast to make space
- Electrical work, like moving sockets or switches, which is for your electrician
- Painting walls and ceilings, or repairing plaster
Tips worth knowing
New paint needs time to cure fully, so treat it gently at first. Beyond that, these tips help:
- Measure the gap between the wardrobe wall and the bed
- List the things that won’t hang, such as jumpers and shoes
- For a flat, measure the stairs, landings and lift
- Work out the split between long and short hanging
With sliding doors, vacuum the track now and then. Clear anything that falls into it.
Don’t overload a single rail or shelf. Shelves and rails are sized for everyday loads, so mention anything unusually heavy when we plan.
Pricing fitted wardrobes in E6
What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. That depends on:
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Parking and unloading on your street
- Walls and floors that are out of level or out of square
- What goes inside: rails, shelves, drawers and dividers
Awkward rooms take more time: walls that lean, floors that slope and sloping ceilings all mean more scribing and cutting. That is reflected in the quote, written once we have measured up.
What we need to know
The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. It is useful to include:
- What kind of home it is, and which floor the room is on
- A few pictures of the space, taken from the doorway and from each corner
- Where you live, with the postcode
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
Getting a quote starts with a few details: which room it is, rough sizes and a couple of photos if you can take them. To send them, message us from the contact page. We’ll then arrange a design visit and follow it with a quote in writing.
Flats, blocks and rented homes
If the property is let, we will need access agreed with the tenants, at times that suit them. A letting agent can arrange this on a landlord’s behalf, and the written quote can go to whoever needs it.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, which often brings a shared hall and tight turns on the stairs. We plan the size of each section around it, after measuring the route at the design visit.
Bespoke or off-the-shelf?
Off-the-shelf furniture can be a sensible choice. If the walls are straight and the space suits standard sizes, it often does the job.
It’s worth being honest about cost: flat-pack is normally cheaper to buy. Bespoke earns its place where the room is tricky, space is tight or you want the furniture to look part of the house.
Questions from E6
Can you add sockets inside the units?
No. Sockets, switches and lighting are for your electrician. We plan the furniture around where they’ll go.
Is it possible to have storage over the bed?
Yes. Storage around a bed makes good use of a wall that’s often wasted and can include bedside shelves. We measure the bed and the room during the design visit.
Will you travel outside London?
No. We work in London and nowhere else, across all the boroughs and the City of London.
Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?
Both work well, depending on the space. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing, while sliding doors save space but only open part of the wardrobe at a time. We talk through both at the design visit.
Do you make good the walls afterwards?
No. We do not plaster or decorate. We finish the furniture itself, as set out in your quote.
Does fitted furniture need planning permission?
Not usually. Conservation areas mostly control changes to the outside, and furniture inside a house does not normally need it. In a listed building, check with the council’s conservation officer before any work.
What are your fitted wardrobes made from?
We build with moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, depending on the part and the design. Your quote sets out the materials.
