Common questions about fitted home offices
Can you fit furniture in a home close to Leyton Midland Road station?
Yes, homes across Waltham Forest and the rest of London are within the area we cover. You can send us a few details through our contact form to arrange a design visit, and tell us about parking and access at the same time.
Is parking a problem for fitting in Leyton Grange?
It can be, depending on whether your street is in a controlled parking zone. A van may need a visitor’s permit, a paid parking bay or a bay suspension, which the council arranges, often with notice. It helps to tell us about parking at the measuring visit, so the day can be planned around it.
Can a home office go in a loft room?
Yes, in a converted loft room. Headroom is the main thing to plan around, so the desk sits where you can stand up. Shelving and cupboards can fill the lower space under the slope.
How do you get large furniture into a flat?
We plan the route in at the design visit. We measure the stairs, landings, lift and doors, and each section is made to a size that will get through.
Can you come on a Saturday?
Yes, by arrangement. If a Saturday works better for you, say so when you get in touch.
Do I choose the paint colour?
You do. The paint colour is agreed with you before anything is painted.
Fitted home offices in Leyton Grange: what you get
Landings and the space under the eaves can also take a desk. A desk under a sloping ceiling needs careful planning so you can sit and stand comfortably. On a landing, it has to leave room to walk by. We measure and plan for the space you have in Leyton Grange. We make home offices from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood, spray-painted or hand-painted, and people most often get in touch about no way to put work away and shelving that bows under the load.
Around Leyton Grange, a large share of homes date from before 1919, and houses of that age often have alcoves either side of a chimney breast. A desk can sit in an alcove, with shelving above and a cupboard below, which keeps work in its own corner of the room. Walls are rarely straight in older houses, so the desk and shelves are scribed to fit.
A written quote is the clearest record of what we have agreed. It describes the home office we have designed for the room, what it is made from and how it’s finished, and the workshop works from it.

What it costs
A few things affect what fitted furniture costs:
- How big the furniture is
- The finish: spray painted or hand painted
- Hanging rails, shelves, drawers and other fittings inside
- The number of doors and drawers
In London, parking can affect the price. Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones, so a van may need a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension. It’s useful to talk about parking at the design visit, so we can plan for it.
Helping us understand the room
Getting a few details early makes the visit more useful. Where you can, include:
- What you’d like to store or use the space for
- Anything in the way, such as radiators, sockets, switches, a boiler or meters
- Your postcode and the borough
- Whether it’s a house or a flat, and if there are stairs or a lift
You do not need exact measurements to get started. We measure everything properly during the design visit. To get started, use our contact form and let us know about the room. The written quote follows the visit.
How fitting works for fitted home offices
On the morning of the fitting, the first job is covering the floors and protecting the way in from the front door. The sections built in our workshop come in next. How long the fitting takes depends on the layout and how many pieces make up the office, and the fitting days are agreed in your quote. Where a period house has been split into flats, the way in often goes through shared parts, so it helps to let neighbours know about fitting day. Each section is sized for the tightest door or turn. Saturday fitting is possible by arrangement.
- First you tell us about the room and what your work needs, including the equipment you use.
- At the design visit we measure, look at the light and the sockets and plan the layout with you.
- We send a written quote setting out the design, materials and finish.
- We make every part in our workshop, sized for the room and the route in, using moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood.
- We bring it to your home, fit it and leave it ready to use, with cable routes left clear.
Before fitting day
- Mention any parking restrictions on your street
- Get any new sockets or wiring done by your electrician before fitting day
- Let us know where the boiler and meters are
How to get a quote
To make a start, drop us a line using the contact form and tell us a little about the room and what you want the furniture to do. From there, we arrange a design visit to measure up and talk through your ideas, and a quote in writing follows.

What it is made from
Spray-painted finish
A spray-painted finish works well on every part of the office. We do it in our workshop, where the finish can be kept even. Any paint colour agreed with you can be used.
Doors and drawer fronts
Cupboard doors hide the clutter of working life. We make them plain or panelled, with handles to match. When you finish, the doors close on work.
Flats, conversions and lettings
Mansion blocks and purpose-built blocks often have house rules about lifts, entry systems and when trades can come in. Let us know about them at the design visit, so fitting day is planned around them.
A lot of London’s terraced houses are now converted flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.
Caring for painted furniture
Looking after painted furniture is simple. A few things help it stay looking good:
- Consider your chair when planning the desk
- Mention any parking rules on your street
- Note how many files and books you need to store
- Bring paint colours you like to the design visit
We run each drawer and open each door with you before we go. We will show you the cable routes and how they’re meant to be used. You will be ready to set up your desk.
Use a mat or coasters on the desk for hot drinks. Mop up spills quickly. A desk mat under the keyboard and mouse saves wear on the surface.
