Fitted wardrobes in E10: how it works

Fitted wardrobes are built to the room, from the floor to the ceiling and from wall to wall where the space allows. That leaves no gap above to gather dust and no wasted space at the sides. If you’re planning fitted wardrobes in E10, the first step is a design visit to measure up and discuss the design. We make fitted wardrobes from birch ply and moisture-resistant MDF, painted by hand or sprayed, and the usual reasons to get in touch are a room too narrow for hinged doors and an awkward slope in a loft bedroom.

You’re welcome to ask questions while we work. The design, materials and finish were settled before anything was made, so fitting day is about putting it in place carefully and leaving everything tidy. How long the fitting takes depends on the length of the run, the doors and what goes inside, and your quote sets out the fitting days.

  1. You let us know about the room, including any slopes, alcoves or windows. A rough sketch of the room helps if you have one.
  2. We come to measure and talk through hanging heights, doors and drawers, with your clothes in mind.
  3. We put the design, materials and finish into a quote in writing.
  4. We then make the wardrobes in our workshop, ready for spraying or for hand painting on site.
  5. We bring them to your home and fit them in place.

How our quotes work

No two rooms cost the same to furnish, because size, layout and finish change from job to job. A spray finish and a hand-painted finish involve different work, and that shows in the price. The figure comes in your written quote after the design visit.

Why work with us

  • Built from moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood
  • Every quote follows a design visit
  • Designed for the room you have
  • A spray or hand-painted finish

Arranging a design visit

Because every job is different, the cost is set out in a written quote after the visit. Because every room is different, the quote comes after the design visit. To arrange a visit, fill in our short enquiry form.

Fitted wardrobes across E10: local notes

Homes across E10, Walthamstow, Leyton and Bakers Arms included, have bedrooms with every kind of quirk. Fitted wardrobes are scribed to the walls and levelled on site. The paint finish, spray-painted or hand-painted, is agreed with you.

The biggest shares of homes in E10 were built before 1919 (about 58%) and since 2000 (about 16%), according to Valuation Office Agency council tax figures (2025). The age of a home tells us a lot about its walls, floors and ceilings, and so about how fitted wardrobes are fixed and fitted. More than half of the homes in the E10 postcode district (about 58%) were built before 1919, going by the Valuation Office Agency’s 2025 council tax figures. Older bedrooms usually have alcoves and tall ceilings, both of which fitted wardrobes can use, scribed to walls that are not straight. Terraced houses are home to about 33% of households in E10, according to Census 2021. London terraces usually have a small back bedroom and alcoves in the main bedroom, which suit fitted furniture.

Much of London is covered by controlled parking zones run by the boroughs, and depending on the street, a visitor permit, a paid bay or a bay suspension through the council may be needed. It is useful to tell us about parking during the design visit.

Leyton: Near listed buildings like Walnut Tree House, less than half a mile west of the centre of Leyton, older homes may keep original joinery that fitted wardrobes can be designed around. For a listed home, fixing into original features can need listed building consent. For a flat near Leyton Midland Road station, each piece is planned so it can be carried up and joined together in the room.

Flats, leases and landlords

Landlords furnishing a let use fitted furniture too, as it makes good use of an awkward room. It is made from the same moisture-resistant MDF and birch plywood as any of our work.

Many London terraces have been converted into flats, and that often means a shared hallway and a tight turn on the stairs. Each section is sized with that in mind.

Why people ask for fitted wardrobes in E10

The usual reason is simple: there isn’t enough storage. Clothes spill onto chairs, into spare rooms and under the bed. Built-in wardrobes make use of the full wall, up to the ceiling, so you get more storage from the same floor space.

Most of the enquiries we get are about things like these:

  • Standard wardrobes that don’t fill the wall
  • Damp or musty clothes against an external wall
  • A tight bedroom where doors get in the way
  • Wardrobes that are full to bursting

Bespoke fitted wardrobes or ready-made?

Off-the-shelf wardrobes are cheaper to buy and easy to take with you. If you’re renting or moving soon, that may matter most. Fitted wardrobes stay with the room and are made for that room alone.

Before you hire any carpenter

  • Whether the quote says what the furniture is made from
  • How doors and drawers are fitted
  • How they handle walls that are not straight
  • Who does any electrics, plumbing or gas work

How we price fitted wardrobes

What it costs comes down to the materials and the time involved. The main factors are:

  • Access to the room, like stairs, lifts and narrow halls
  • The overall size of the piece
  • Parking near your home
  • The number of doors and drawers

There’s no price list, because each job is designed for a single room. Instead, we measure, discuss the design and then quote in writing, with the materials and finish set out. To start, send us a few details through our contact form.

Getting in touch

The more you can tell us at the start, the better the design visit goes. When you get in touch, it’s useful to send:

  • Anything fixed to the wall that the furniture needs to work around
  • What you’d like to store or use the space for
  • Photos of the whole wall or room, including the floor and ceiling
  • Any ideas or images you have saved

To get a quote for fitted wardrobes in E10, fill in our short enquiry form. Let us know the room and the rough idea. We will arrange a design visit, then send a written quote.

Caring for painted furniture

A few practical points help before and after fitting day. Here are some things worth bearing in mind:

  • Ask your electrician about moving sockets early
  • Let us know about any damp you have seen on bedroom walls
  • Look at whether your lease needs consent for alterations
  • Let us know about the lift and stairs in your block

Do not pack clothes tight against the back panel. A little airflow helps keep damp at bay.

Close doors gently and do not let them swing into furniture. It helps the hinges and runners stay true.

Questions from E10

How is the inside of the wardrobe planned?

It’s worked out with you when we measure, starting from the clothes you have. Some shelves can be adjustable so the layout can change.

Should I choose hinged or sliding wardrobe doors?

It depends on the room. Hinged doors open a whole section at once but need room in front to swing. We will help you weigh them up when we visit.

Can wardrobes be fitted on an uneven floor?

We allow for it from the start. We level the wardrobe on a plinth or feet and scribe it to the walls.

Do I get to choose the colour?

You choose it. We agree the colour with you.

Is the furniture spray painted or hand painted?

There are two ways to finish it: spray painted or hand painted. Spray painting gives a smooth, even finish, and hand painting is easy to touch up.

Will you travel outside London?

No. Our work is in London only: every London borough and the City of London.

What happens when you come to measure?

We measure the room, check how level the walls and floors are and discuss the design with you. We’ll also ask about access and parking, and afterwards we send a quote in writing.
